Basel - physio needed for SPD (pregnancy related)

Hi there, I really need a physio who is trained to work on pregnant women for my SPD, does anyone have any recommendations?

Have had blank looks from two gynaecologists and been told it's "normal pains", aargh.

I'm not a fan of the Frauenspital so would prefer not to go there.

Thanks!

My wife used a good practice on Nadelburg (near Tram 3 Universitšt(?), and 5 mins walk from Marktplatz) for pelvic pain during pregnancy, and she certainly didn't get a blank look from her gynae when she asked about it. It wasn't covered on our Assura insurance, but it was affordable. PM me for more details if needed.

Re: Basel - physio needed for SPD (pregnancy related)

I would see another gyno. Mine diagnosed me with SPD and recommended a local osteopath. It is a pity that you are in Basel. They call it Symphose (Schambein) Dysfunktion in German.

The osteopath helped me with breathing exercises so I breathed using my diaphragm and he corrected alignment problems. 2 visits and I was fixed. There was still pain, but it went away with the delivery, just like my gyno said it would The problem didn't happen at all with my next baby.

What I found helped was turning all the way over in bed with both knees together before getting out of bed and keeping your knees together when getting out of the car. Putting one leg down and putting all my weight on one leg seemed to hurt a lot - and this is exactly how my gyno diagnosed it.

btw any "strange" pains you feel down there I would get them checked right away with an ultrasound. Stretching around the ligaments is normal but pelvic pressure should be checked. Both my babies wanted out early :-)

Re: Basel - physio needed for SPD (pregnancy related)

Thanks guys, the ridiculous thing is I had severe SPD with my last pregnancy (a year ago in the UK) and was on crutches for the last 3 months so you'd think they'd consider I know what I'm talking about!

The frauenspital were poop and my gynae now in France says that physio won't help and I should just go swimming. Last time my hips tilted so I know I need to see someone.

Hopefully a bit early for the baby to be coming, I'm only 23 weeks.

Re: Basel - physio needed for SPD (pregnancy related)

I am not a specific women's health Physio. I am a musculoskeletal outpatients Physio (ie back/neck pain, soft tissue injuries, broken bones etc).

I am not registered to work in Basel yet as my documents have not come back from the translator yet, but am fully qualified and registered in the UK. (You can check on th HPC registration website for any British physio that you are seeing to confirm they are what and who they say they are,,,,,,,,,)

But from a basic advice point of view,,,,,,the tread before highlighting 'breathing,' was on the right lines.

Its all core stability and pelvic floor exs.

pm me if you want me go through any with you.

Sure, we can manipulate you and mobilise you until the cows come home, but unless you also have the underlying strength, it won't have any long term beneficial effects.

Pete
