I'm about to embark on divorce proceedings here in Geneva. I have been advised that it's quite acceptable and normal here for both parties to use the same lawyer... Is this correct? Also, what are the rules with regards to leaving the family home? It is rented and both names are on the rental agreement. Is consent needed by both parties? Or can one simply provide notice to leave the agreement/home? The rent will be covered as other party works part time. Also what is the situation with regards to paying for property abroad owned by other apouse?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a three friends - foreigners married to Swiss - who have gone through divorce in Switzerland; in each case the couple used a joint lawyer.

And in each case one partner ended up getting royally screwed. The lawyers were not exactly impartial.

YMMV.

Were it me, I would have my own lawyer. Especially if you don't fully understand the nuances of Swiss law.
