Why don't such people just go to another doctor?

Martin

That's what I plan to do...

The doctor I had is really an excellent doctor and took great physical care of me. I'm just the type who needs a doctor who is warmer (but not cheesy) and that is not any fault of the doctor at all.

Who said they don't go...? That's exactly what I do. If one doctor couldn't treat me I have nothing to do but go to another. But it's a pitty that I have to go from doctor to doctor, pay all those bills until one can trwat me. So finally it gets quite expencive.

And I didn't have any communication problems (I have good German) and it had nothing to do with doctor's personality (they all seem friendly). I am also happy with equipment, drugs, etc. What I am not happy is that when I need a help of a doctor I can not get it. I have to change several doctors to find the one who can finally diagnose and treat me. Why one doctor can and the other couldn't...? And I am not talking about complicated desiase...

I will mention another bad experience - doctor's bill. I always check this one. And usually everything is correct. But once there were added medicines I have never received for CHF 180. Maybe it was a mistake of the assistant who prepares the bills. But if I wouldn't check the details I would have to pay those CHF 180...

Re: Ranking of Swiss doctors.

I think ranking is not a good word. Perhaps, sharing experiences with specific cases and specific problems, etc. could be a better concept. It's a service just like a anything else. But, it involves our health, so there is a lot to risk, I don't mind sharing any good or bad experiences with anyone who needs that. PMing is maybe a better way.

I have had some atrocious experiences with some health care professionals in our region, with permanent consequences. I have also found some excellent docs after a few years, so let's just say it pays off to stay assertive and search. Some docs are in no way used to clients wanting to be informed and make their own choices, possibly changing docs as well. Don't let anyone bully you into complacency, it might cost you a lot, including money. If you are not comfortable or 100% confident with your doc, get a second opinion.

colonoscopy - Bad Doctor: Dr Giostra at the HUG in gastroenterology

Dr Giostra (HUG) lied about puncturing my colon, told his assistent to send me home saying "rien à signaler" nothing to report. So, when I experienced extreme pain on my side I thought it was something I ate. And I ignored it. But as I tried to sleep I experienced the worst pain ever in my life and I went to the emergency department at the hospital. At the hospital they said If I had to continue ignoring the pain I would be dead from septic leakage. The month of hospitalization following and surgery that followed was thanks to DR Giostra (HUG). Dr Giostra later admitted that he knew what he had done and that he thought he had repaired the puncture with cauterization. If he had admitted to that from the beginning I would have gone to the emergency room at first signs pain.

Franbasi - Did you intend to name the doctor and advance a malpractice allegation on an internet forum?

Re: Ranking of Swiss doctors.

I am advising people to ask the question Why. If a Dr. suggests you take a medication , ask why and if there is an alternative.

It is your life. Start taking your life into your own hands. Do your research. Stop looking for quick fixes.

Be careful of meds. Find out what are the side effects.

Many Drs. are very focused on the money. This includes psychiatrists.

There are some good Drs but you have to look for them. Drs. are not Gods.
