Pilates for pregnant women in Basel

Hello Everyone
Does anyone know if there is someone in (or around) Basel offering pilates classes for pregnant women? I am in the 14th week and would love to attend a group lesson, but haven't been able to find one in this area.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Paula

Welcome to the Forum

I know nothing about this place in Allschwil BL but it was once posted on the Forum and still seems to exist.

You'll have to ask about the specific group you want but it might be worth trying.

Sorry I can't help but I have one question about Pilates.. I'd love to try a session out at my gym but I'm worried about the language. Do I really need to understand the instructions to do the course..I have the belief that a lot of explanation and guidance are given and my Bern deutsch is non existence.

Re: Pilates for pregnant women in Basel

Thanks for the replies to you both. I know the Allschwil studio, but there are no specific classes for people who are pregnant. Unfortunately. It seems to be quite hard to find. Maybe I do have to give Yoga a try ... perhaps it is easier to twist into those poses when pregnant?!
I am a pilates mat instructor myself and simply would have liked to attend a special class now. As to the language I would recommend asking if the instructor can speak high german (if that's easier for you) or tell her at least that you cannot understand everything. Depending on how big the class is the instructor could be able to pay more attention to you and make sure you are following the class. At a gym, though, the classes tend to be larger and then it's quite challenging for an instructor to pay special attention to one person. Maybe try a pilates studio for a beginning class to get started. I would recommend that anyway if you are new to pilates.
Thanks again for your comments. Enjoy the rest of the day!

If you are looking for a yoga studio in Basel that teaches in English, I would recommend BYOGA. Its a great studio, class size isn't too big and I have seen women that are pregnant attend the class. The instructors, if told of condition back pain, pregnancy, first time, will provide specific instructions for you.

Re: Pilates for pregnant women in Basel

Though I'm a yoga teacher, I do not feel qualified to teach pregnancy yoga classes as there are precautions and certain postures that should be avoided and pose modifications specific to which trimester you're in. I would highly recommend using the Swiss Yoga Verband to find a teacher who has been certified in yoga for pregnancy. The list can be narrowed by Kanton and provides direct contact information so you can call or email the teachers to ask if they offer any English classes or mixed instruction. Sorry the site's only in German, but after you choose your Kanton, your keyword is "Schwanger". That should get you to a short list.

As for pilates, I am not sure how it works with pregnancy, but I can ask my colleague who teaches both mat and reformer classes (though she teaches in Swiss German, she clarifies often in English) how it works for pregnancy. Her studio is in Langenthal, though she may have a Basel contact. I'll post back when I find out.

When I came to Switzerland, I was so desperate to take yoga classes again that i went to Swiss German classes constantly. At first it was confusing and I always set up at the back of the group so I could watch/mimic people when I got confused. Before long, I began to understand what was asked of me just by connecting movement to word. Now I take classes, yoga and pilates, and sometimes Zumba just to learn more German words while I exercise .
