Eczema - at my age?

It appears my wedding ring has started to give me Eczema (after 12 years of wearing it)

What would cause this? I've let it clear up and cleaned the ring before trying it on again, then it comes back after a day or so of wearing it.

Anyone else had this?

Re: Eczema - at my age?

I had this after both of my sons were born. I chalked it up to hormonal changes and dietary reasons. When I reduce gluten, dairy and meat, it tends to diminish.

Re: Eczema - at my age?

Eczema can be the result of something you've eaten or a psychological shock.

My bro had had a big one when his wife left him.....

My dad have it when he eats certain kind of fish....

Re: Eczema - at my age?

I couldn't wear mine, and any other ring for more than a week without it irritating.

Re: Eczema - at my age?

Do you normally take the ring off to wash your hands? If you don't, try this for a day or two or at least slip it down the finger a bit to make sure you get the skin under the ring clean and dry.

Is there anything you have been in contact with recently which might be getting under the ring to irritate the skin? Taking the ring off and cleaning it is fine, but if you then use the substance again, traces of it may stick under it repeatedly. A gold ring shouldn't cause problems.

Do, never took it off ever, until this started. Can't think of anything nasty I've come into contact with, thought it might be somthing like that so I gave it a blooming good clean and let my finger totally heal before I tried again, its been back on a day and the eczema is back this morning.

Odd that my watches have all been fine??

I'll give some of Upthehatters2008 links suggestions a go

Calendula is a gentle healer of broken/irritated skin.

Divorce worked wonders for me...

Put some Aloe Vera on you finger while gently massaging! It is a great product for the skin!

That assumes it is
1) gold (vs. silver or platinum)
2) real gold (vs. plated)

Platinum should be in the same category than gold....

Re: Eczema - at my age?

Try wearing the ring on the ring finger of the other hand. See what happens.

Re: Eczema - at my age?

Is one of your hands so much bigger than the other then? I suppose if you are right-handed and do a lot of holding or lifting with the right hand the fingers might get slightly thicker...

Ah I dunno if she would really kill you you know. Mr L lost his but he's still alive - skiing, fell, took off glove, shook glove to get snow off. Snow gone, ring gone. Later - ring replaced (much more expensive than first time though)
