Re: Cute things kids say

Waiting for the tram next to an African woman in traditional dress (but not headdress)
M "That lady has a pretty dress"
me "Yes, it's very pretty, what colours can you see"
M (lists colours and then shapes)
We get on the tram and the lady is standing near us.
M "look, that lady is there"
me "yes, that dress looks nice an cool in the heat, much more sensible than mummy's jeans"
M "it's very long......"
me " but it's a very light material, and her legs must be very cool, plus there is those lovely flowers cut out of her sleeves to allow a breeze in there too"
M "When I grow up and become black like her I will have a dress like that"
me "Baby, you have to be born black, you will always be pink"
M "But I WANT to be black!"

Is 4 too young to teach genetics and phenotypes?
Maybe I should've lied, it would've avoided the melt down that followed, and being told that I'm mean.....

Son: Mommy, God exists for real?

Son: aaah. And we can't ask the dead people, they are all rotten.

When I was in England my daughter was being naughty in front of my family I told her off speaking German ( I normally only speak English with her) she replied very loudly I don't understand you speak English

I find it much easier to tell off, warn, shout, in German that English. Better suited language.

Re: Cute things kids say

We're off to Los Angeles for a holiday soon, so I started to whip up some excitement in my four-year-old:

Me: So, darling, we'll be going to America on holidays!

Him: Mmm-hmmm.

Me: On a really big aeroplane. To a place called Los Angeles!

Him: Uh-huh.

Me: Uh ... and we'll see Mickey Mouse there -- in his own home!

Him: Minkey Mouse (sic)?!? Really??!!! Minkey Mouse, in his own home?!

Me: Yes!!

Him: The real Minkey Mouse? Not just on TV? With all his friends?

Me: Yes!! The real Mickey Mouse! In his house! And his friends: Goofy, and Donald Duck ...

Him: Wow! We're going to see the real Minkey Mouse! Not just someone dressed up in a costume!

Me: Uhhh ...

Trying to distract the 3yo in the car.

Guess what we are having for dinner?
After a long list of the usual favorites, I say no we are having tomatoes, salad and fish with your favorite sauce (tartar)
"I don't want to eat a horse" but i have some tomatoes.

Re: Cute things kids say

Not so much her,, it's my fault but:-
We are in a coop with those little kiddies trolleys. We call it the little trolley shop. Despite many warnings not to bump into people or things. over many months, Minime starts 'riding' the trolley (as we all would really like to). I tell her to stop because it's not allowed and if she knocks into someone or knocks something over then we will have to leave.
Mini 'But I WANT to'
me 'I might want to run around naked, doesn't mean it's allowed'
She starts again, so I say you are not allowed, she counters that she wants to, so I say, OK, if we can do what we want, next time I'm going to take some clothes off.
She does it again, so I start to take my coat off. 'If we can just do what we want, then I'm getting naked'
Her face She started thinking really hard then shouted
'Stop Mama, not everybody (no-body) wants to see your boobies!'

I've been giggling since.

Ahhh, all I need to do to control my kid is to threaten to strip in coop city. Parenting in soooo easy.

Re: Cute things kids say

It wasn't something he said, but something he did, yesterday in the Dorfladen. Out of everything in our little village supermarket that my little 2 year old guy could get his paws on... he picked out of box of OB Tampons and ran around laughing hysterically as mommy chases him (8 months pregnant), trying to explain we don't need any of those right now. The employees were still talking and laughing about it today

My 1.5 years old son loves to go in my bedroom and look into my drawers. One day I was having my Spanish class when he came back in the living room and gave my teacher something.

My little pink device.
