Stress? I come to the EF forums, and see some of the complaints people post, or some of the people that get banned for idiocy.. and it makes me feel better

Re: Stress - how do you cope with it?

I have a hookah pipe which I keep on the balcony for whenever I fancy a stress busting smoke. Nothing naughty, just regular apple, peach, mint, zaglool tobacco that you can buy from any Swiss tobacconist. As I'm a non-smoker, the nicotine hit is usually quite intense and I find that my stresses float away in large puffy clouds of smoke.

Whisky or beer...the world is a less stressful place when it is shiney.

I am a huge believer of that. A hot bath - takes time out from the madness of it all and slows the world down.

Obviously you need to know which sites to go in order to "relieve" the stress.

2. Little bit of flirting.
3. Power training

In short, finding the way to get some adrenaline

Re: Stress - how do you cope with it?

i know all about stress as the moment. I am trying to do the following, maybe these might work for you?

1. compartmentalise each problem and try to focus on one problem at a time (even if you still need to think about 10 completely different areas each day)

2. learn to push-back. if you are being overloaded, take the time to divert some of the load before it lands on your desk or ask for some work to be re-allocated.

3. get organised, get an App (for your iPhone etc. in my case I use Things for Mac)

4. take time out. you may feel like you don't have time for this, but a little bit of down time will improve efficiency when you return to a task and might help new ideas/solutions to surface

5. spend time with good people.

Re: Stress - how do you cope with it?

Sports always helps... I used run a lot and play badminton...

Now I do yoga and pranayama (ancient indian breathing technique)...

And i have to admit the pranayama is very efficient in my case and a lot of people I know... For the practice I am doing, normally you attend 2-3 days course and then it is mostly self practice with weekly follow-up.... Let me know if you want to read more about the course....

Didn't she end up commiting suicide? She obviously found one problem it couldn't cure.

Aw, she did..her poetry is still quite a great way to de-stress, though.

Whenever feeling stressed, I take out my headphones and I just listen to Pantera! (high volume is required)
It's kind of hardcore but it makes you feel sooo good!

Or buy a nice subwoofer in your car, play some Ying Yang Twins (subwoofer and amplifier is a must!).

Even though it sound "stressfull" this is my method relief from all the daily stuff...

for various reasons, work, selling house, buying house etc for the passed few months I've been very stressed, with no signs of a let up until at least into next year.

So how do people cope with it?

Re: Stress - how do you cope with it?

Exercise does wonders for stressed out me - I have a kickboxing/aerobic routine that's just brilliant - imagine the people / things that annoy you are standing there in front of you and kick the hell out of them

An occasional rant is good for me too - I have very understanding work colleagues who know that every now and then I have to blow a fuse in order to maintain overall sanity.

A truly funny film that will make you laugh out loud (like Sean of the Dead) will certainly relieve some tension too.
