Nice surprise from our accountant

We receive the keys to a place we are buying in canton ZH tomorrow. Normally we would be very excited, but we were dealt a bitter blow from our accountant today.

My wife had a place in canton VD in her name alone, and we are buying together in ZH. The accountant tells us at the very last minute that we are in fact liable to a whopping capital gains tax, which could have been avoided if my wife bought the place in ZH alone.

We're quite upset and seething, as you might imagine. Our bank manager didn't brief us on this either.

Is there anything we can do? I would have thought this is the sort of thing you pay accountants and banks for.

Not now we don't

My point was that the accountant didn't explain the implication of putting my name on the deeds too.

We get the keys tomorrow, so it is extremely late to change this.
