Gross rates for Expats

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone but I came across it in the Weekly Telegraph about three weeks ago.

It show Gross interest rates offered by several UK basd banks for Expats.

Here's a representative one from a big New Zealand bank....

8.4% credit interest, minimum investment NZD$10K, 12 month term.

Note that there's 10% withholding tax on that.

Also note that the NZD dropped 3 cents against the USD yesterday, so there's a teensy little bit of fluctuation in the exchange rates at the mo. It's probably not a good time to be moving money around...

I'm a bit rusty on the UKtax rulings......I have a not inconsiderable sum on deposit in the UK and each month pay a lot of tax on the interest. since i am resident here do i need to pay this UK tax? it's deducted by the bank each month.

If you want to complete a UK tax declaration each year you can get this back. The question is, is it worth it?
