Can the Pound drop much further against the Franc?

So we've seen a steady decrease in the value of the Pound against the Franc for many years now. A couple of years ago there was a sudden jump from approx 2.5 to 1.5 Francs to the Pound. Now it's holding out at around 1.4.

Friends and family visiting from UK can not believe how expensive everything is here (as a result of the exchange rate change mentioned previously - i.e. if you divide the cost of Swiss products by 2.5, you generally still get the equivalent cost in Pounds for the UK). So, what do people think is likely to happen from here? Switzerland is struggling with export because of the strength of the Franc. Do you think the Pound might finally start to recover or do we think the Franc will continue to strengthen against the Pound?

A number of years ago the exchange rate between Swiss Franc and Pound was 10 Francs to the Pound (in the early 80's I think). Back then, when the Franc started to strengthen, everyone thought the Pound would recover. But it didn't. I'm clearly no expert on this matter so, is there anyone with a bit more knowledge of the subject who would like to comment?

Re: Can the Pound drop much further against the Franc?

30 years ago, the dollar was at about 3x what it is now with regards to the CHF, and about 2x 20 or so years ago.

However, I remember when I spent some weeks for work in the UK back in '84, it was 1 GBP = 1 USD!

This is what happens when you print more of a worthless currency.

lol! Yea, it would be great to confidently predict the future. I, like I'm sure a few other members on here, still have some assets and savings in UK, so it's something that crosses my mind quite a lot.
