Doing consultancy in switzerland.

Hi, my consultancy firm is in Berlin, VAT and all is there.
When i consult in other EU countries (i fly there) i invoice without VAT.
And as long as i am not 180 days or more there, it is only in Germany that i am tax liable. Several accountants told me that it is about where the central part of my live is from the perspective and property and especially number of days in the last 365 days where i was away. I do not own property or have important family in other EU countries. So my case is clear.

What's the story in Switzerland??
Please note potential answerers. --> I am not employed in Switzerland.
I do consultancy there base on a consltancy/contractor contract with an international broker firm for IT consultants, and it is with their swiss office.
I write them invoices according to the number of hourse i have worked.

I surmize, at least not between Denmark and Switzerland so i think also for Switzerland and Germany there would be no double taxation (it might be a balanced mix though from what i read on this forum, meaning a bit in one place and then the rest at the second place. Ie not double but distributed between the two countries. But in my case it is not a question of employment taxation. I have a firm and it is in Berlin. I cant imagine having to open a firm in Switzerland for consultancy of only a few days. So there must be a 180 day rule or something (like between EU countries).

Thanks,
Paul

Re: Doing consultancy in switzerland.

There's a ~180 day rule. There's a dual taxation treaty between Switzerland and Germany.

Do you have a work permit for Switzerland?

Re: Doing consultancy in switzerland.

When I was going to take up a consultancy job in Switzerland a few years ago, I have asked about the process. (This was what I was told then)

I will need a work permit and the only way I can get one is to be employed by a Swiss Company. Since I am freelancing with my own company, I cannot get a work permit using my UK company. I was pointed to a specialist company (I forgot the term for it) and they have presence in Switzerland and can employ me as their consultant. This way they can pay my fee after tax etc and apply for work permit for me. I think at the time, it works out under and around 20%. Since I am working in non-EU and not resident in UK during that period, I do not have to pay UK tax and the income is paid to me personally as swiss tax-paid; I would be extremely foolish to bring such income back into UK.

If you need to know the company name, PM me and I can search in my email. They do this for people all around the world.

@gormet, could you elaborate more on the intermediary company you used to get this bureaucracy done for you? Thanks!
