Free current / personal account?

Hi,

Is there a free (no maintenance fees, no card transaction fees) current account that you guys use / know of?
I got used to my irish free account (no maintenance fee, no card fee, no online transaction fees and decent online system), is there anything in Zurich / Winterthur area ?

I'd be getting my salary into this account (In Ireland this is sometimes condition for free banking).

Regards

Re: Free current / personal account?

usually if you have a minimum of assets with a bank they will waive the fees.

postfinance for example waive all fess/costs if you have 30kCHF saved or a mortgage with them. if you have more that 12kCHF saved with them then most of the fees are waived.

UBS and CS have a similar offers but I don't know the details of the threshold.

All of their websites will give you exact details on their account opening pages.

Re: Free current / personal account?

I have an account and savings account with UBS and it's free for the first year, and even after that it's 20 francs a month, and reduced to 10 if you get your statements online. ALTHOUGH saying that, I have 3 other friends with UBS, and we all got different deals for the same accounts, or one of my friends, an even worse account! :S Don't know how that works!!! I like their online system, and also they send all my letters and online everything in english! Even when I put my card into a pin reader, or an ATM it comes up in English!!! Love UBS!

This sounds interesting, I will keep some savings with them so that should be sorted then, perfect!

Re: Free current / personal account?

Hi, I use www.money-net.ch, the online account of the Berner Kantonalbank. I opened it by mail when I was still living in Germany, the only fee I pay is 20CHF / yr for my Maestro/ATM card and can take money for free out of every CH machine except Postfinance and UBS. No other costs for running the account and no rules for minimum cash in it.

I fully agree. Plus I have my mortgage with UBS and that's why I'm not paying any fee at all. This includes my wife's account, too. UBS, UBS, UBS

Cheapest banks for fees tend to be the Raiffeisen. Well worth a look.....

Re: Free current / personal account?

I opened a bank account today and it was from UBS. It is the individual package.

It is free for 12 months (debt, credit cards, ebanking) and the 20 or 10 if you have more than 10k on assets.
