Re: Currency Exchange

OK, to follow up on an earlier post, I eventually signed up for xe.com's fx account, and have to say I'm not impressed. I transferred some cash back to the UK when the rates were pretty favorrable. At about the same time I'd bought something off amazon.co.uk with my Swiss credit card. The creidt card had a better rate.

So last week when I needed to make another transfer I used UBS's online banking, payments abroad system to pay into my UK account. Immediately afterwards I logged on to xe.com to see what rate they were offering for the same transfer it was about 5% worse that what UBS had given me. Not only that, the UBS transfer was quicker and less involved.

Therefore in future I'll be sticking with the simple online banking transfers. Less hassel, and for me it was a better rate. I'm guessing that the better rates they promise are probably to and from US bank accounts?

In this thread people are recommending www.wechselstube.com But I have also seen people say that www.xe.com/fx is a good system from transferring money aboard.

Has anyone used both systems? Is there any compelling reason why I should use one instead of the other?

xe.com claim to be cheaper than all the banks, and 9 out of 10 online systems. I wechselstube.com the 1 in 10? I can't see xe.com's rates without signing up.

Re: Currency Exchange

For me UBS has been good for CHF-GBP & GBP-CHF, I think their commision is about 1.3%, so you get 98.7% of the market rate

5% makes a big difference. On 100k that's CHF 5,000, on 20k CHF 1,000. Even on 2k that's CHF 100 difference. Nice little earner for UBS.

Exchange

If you want to exchange money check www.wechselstube.ch

they have good rates and there is a nice side effect: the receiver won't see who the money came from.........

The service is very fast and I have already used it many times. It works for transfers to Switzerland or any other country!

Re: Currency Exchange

Alert: wechselstube is now locking people out of their system due to `new rules', here is the message from them:

"Unfortunately new regulations in the money transfer business have such a great impact on our daily operational service, which in consequence has led to the closing of client log-ins of private individuals. Therefore we did close your log-in after the transfer of the money.

Best regards Martin Streb kmuOnline ag www.wechselstube.ch <http://www.wechselstube.ch/> Tel. 061 406 97 97"

Anyone about to waste time filling out forms or spend 25 CHF having their ID notarized - don't bother.
