Paying my rental deposit from the UK?

I have been told by the letting agent that I must pay my deposit and first months rent in person in Switzerland exactly 7 days before I move in.

Is this normal?

And how is it possible when I am still in the UK.

Can you do SWIFT / IBAN bank transfers to Swiss bank accounts?

Or is it something to do with the deposit going into one of those special deposit accounts?

Re: Paying my rental deposit from the UK?

Yes, you can do a payment to a CH account using the IBAN numbering system .. starts with CH XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX or SWIFT.

From the UK using HSBC as an example, it is explained here:

http://www.business.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/i...iness/iban-bic

http://www.swissiban.com/

As for your other query, it could have been destined to a joint account held in trust between the tenant and landlord - Housing in General subforum has more infromation. To make sure it is legit, also search the forum for scam as the keyword.

Re: Paying my rental deposit from the UK?

OK, that's good to know.

I might be being silly silly (I know I am) but where on the pink payment slip thing are these details?

Or do I need something else?

Believe me, I've been looking at the scam threads. I'm pretty sure it's not a scam, I've been to the apartment for a start. I think that the agency don't deal with foreigners a lot, and I've never dealt with the Swiss yet, plus the language barrier, makes it difficult for us to work out what each of us has to do.

LOL sorry, but as a French speaker it always makes me laugh to hear people talking about paying with their pink slips (slips + knickers in French).

Re: Paying my rental deposit from the UK?

Grrrrr. I asked the agent for the IBAN and SWIFT details, and they said the owner of the house doesn't want to give that info, and I need to find another solution. What to do?
Also, with the deposit, there is a form for a joint bank account thingy and another pink slip (no giggling Odile) with no bank details on it, does this have to be filled in when I send back the form?
I thought to ask a friend (who has nothing to do with the rental) that lives in Switzerland if I can to a transfer to her Swiss account and then she pays the things.... is this allowed?

You will be able to find the IBAN & Swift info if you have a pink slip. There are IBAN converters on line from the bank ac no also the swift can be found by looking at the banks website

The owner doesn't want to give out the bank info? How does he expect you to pay the rent after you move in?
