I am Swiss born and worked in Switzerland in my youth. I moved to the USA nearly 50 years ago. I get a small amount (200chf) per month and it is deposited in a Swiss account.

My wife, American born, turns 64 this year. I receive my AHV out of Geneva and was told that she is not eligible since she never worked in Switzerland.

I have 3 Swiss friends, also living in America with American spouses and they all receive money for their spouse once she turned 64.

AHV told me even though my wife is not eligible I could contact the AHV in Geneva. I did so in May and have not heard back.

What's the story - is she eligible or not? If not, why would 3 that I know receive it.
I plan on going to the Swiss Consulate in the USA but it's not very convient to where I live- calling them seems impossible.

Don't call the consulate they have no information on this & will not help you. CALL the AVS office and speak to them. They are the only ones who will know or look up the AVS Geneva page.

My understanding is, if you don't contribute - you don't get. This is not only a Swiss thing, it applies in all countries...
