Changing Commune in Canton Vaud (Waadt auf Cruchi Schweitz)

Ok, team. Here's what I need help with. (BTW, I went ahead and read all the stickys etc. on taxation in preparation.)

When my husband first arrived, he had a temporary apartment in Crissier (VD). But we moved to St-Sulpice (VD) and, of course, registered the new residency with the commune.

In the meantime, we received some estimated 2011 Cantonal/communal tax bills--but with the old tax rate of Crissier so we're not sure what we're supposed to pay now (EDIT: I mean the exact amount, the (lower! yay) tax rate of the new commune is supposed to apply but not sure how to compute it, so I need for them to tell me what to pay?). I found online that you are supposed to fill out a form to let them know this: http://www.vd.ch/fr/themes/etat-droi...anton-de-vaud/

How I'm supposed to fill out the bottom of this form is a mystery to me. Is this the sort of thing that I need to go to the office d'impôt and straighten out? Can they help me or is there some office that should explain this?

Also, are the estimated tax payments optional or required (is this a courtesy service or can you just pay at then end of the year)?

My husband is a federal employee on a C permit so they don't withhold anything, in case that matters.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you are able to provide!

I think you pay tax where you lived on 1st January for the whole year.

The estimates are not legally binding so they are not enforcable, however you will receive interest or be charged interest if your early / late with payments.

It probably makes sense to pay what you think the correct amount to be, ZH pays tax free interest @2% so you can use the tax people as a high interest account if you want. They will repay any money on demand if you wish!

Thanks for the information I did already figure out which rate to pay for Vaud when you change commune, forgot to mention that.

Apparently, in Vaud you pay the rate wherever you are at the end of the tax year: "La taxation s'effectue dans la commune où le contribuable a son domicile à la fin de la période de taxation. Cela signifie qu'une personne ayant déménagé d'une commune A à une commune B durant l'année sera taxée sur toute l'année à son nouveau domicile avec le nouveau barème commmunal." So, I figured out that that we're supposed to pay the tax rate of the new commune.

What we are still trying to understand (see OP) (for Canton Vaud):
I found online that you are supposed to fill out a form to let them know this: http://www.vd.ch/fr/themes/etat-droi...anton-de-vaud/

Yes looking at the form, I would say just fill in your new commune at the bottom and sign and date it and that would be about it.

You can probably call your local tax office if you need help.

And as you noticed you pay for where you live on Dec 31 for the whole year so your tax will be based on your new commune.

Re: Changing Commune in Canton Vaud (Waadt auf Cruchi Schweitz)

I'm not confused about which rate I should pay--I'm supposed to pay the rate of the new commune, got it.

The problem is that the Canton sent me the estimated bills based upon the place my husband USED to live, which has a higher rate, and we're supposed to be paying in the new, lower rate of our new commune (we wanna pay what we're supposed to be paying, that's all)--but don't know how to compute that.

Also, for Canton Vaud, when you change Commune there's a form to fill out to send to the tax office that I can't figure out (see above).

So if anyone has any insight on either how to
1) fill it out or
2) some office in Canton Vaud whose job it is to help me fill it out, that would be super. Apparently you have to do a form like this any time you have a change in status, like a baby is born or you move etc., so maybe someone here has experience with this process.

Cheers!

Do you think they might have some helpful tips on how to fill it out at the Commune office (way closer and deserted) or even how to compute the taxes? Or are they likely to give the and say we don't do that here.

They will likely help if there is not to many people waiting. (In montreux they helped me with everything. Then again I was taxed at source

Standard deductions???

Still working on the same problem. Trying to understand the estimated tax situation.

I'm using comparis.ch as a tool to estimate tax (just for educational purposes, not to do anything official with it). It asks you to input your taxable income. I have the Gross Income and Net Income figures but I also understand that there will be deductions. Is there anything like a "standard deduction" in Switzerland, i.e. an amount you can claim without providing additional documentation? If so, where might one find such a thing for Canton VD?

No standard deductions however some health insurence, travel to work, lunch at work is allowed & a percentage for training etc.

Figured out the answer to my own question.

For Canton Vaud, it does seem like there are some "standard deductions" a.k.a. déduction sociale.

In case anyone ever needs this, for the Canton Vaud, here is a table of deductions to compute your taxable income:

That's pretty much the same in ZH, if you fill in a tax return you get those questions.
Living in zh and working a few days a month in GE gives me 404 chf a day for motoring expenses !
