Tax deductions

Hi all,
this is my first post on this forum.
I need help about tax deductions.
My wife is a student and I need to pay a lot for her studies (monthly ticket, semester fees,...) Are any of these costs deductable from my taxes?
I am planing to take a privat kredit for a car. Is bank interest also deductable from tax?
This would help a lot.....

Okay Private credit is a no brainer - interest is deductable. As far as your wife it is far more complex than the information you have provided. Generally certain items can be deducted but it all depends on why she is in education and whether this is related to work. Travel costs are anyway deductable but as for the rest it depends. I would suggest discussing this with your local tax office.

Re: Tax deductions

I came in Switzerland in december 2006. At the moment I have L permit, and as I got information from migrationsamt, next one is B.
My wife is not working. She is just starting on her master course in Zurich.
So this means that I can deduct her coast of studies (tickets,...) from my taxes????
In company where I work the taxes are deducted immediatelly from my salary. If you need more info just say....
Thanks

Re: Tax deductions

As a principle, your wife's expenses are not tax deductible. In Switzerland only further education costs ("Weiterbildung") but nod education costs ("Ausbildung") are tax deductible. Furthermore, as long as you earn less than CHF 120'000 per year, you don't have to file a annual tax return but are finally taxed at source.

If you have to file a tax return, bank interest are tax deductible. Please note that leasing interest for a car are not tax deductible.
