How much will I pay in tax?

What I have:
salary CHF 1570 NETT plus 120 CHF monthly for a german class, plus estimated CHF 990 for the full-board...

How much overall do I need to pay in tax? I read and read and read - but for the life of me don't understand what I will end up actually paying to the tax man - PLEASE help!

Where is Hartfordshire btw?

Tax in CH depends entirely on where you are going to live. You pay 3 kind of tax, Federal (national), K/Cantonal (County) and Communal/Gemeinde (local tax)- so without that info it is impossible to tell. for full board, I suppose you mean minus not plus?

Re: How much will I pay in tax?

If your salary quoted is NETT, surely you have already done your deductions, including tax, or did you mean GROSS ?

Re: How much will I pay in tax?

I think you have to pay the various tax as well as unemployment insurance, illness/accident insurance and pension contribution.

A rough ballpark figure would be 15% - 20% of the total salary in deductions...and I'm assuming the 'board' amount is also taxable.

Something like:

Salary A
Housing/Board B

Total: Gross Salary A plus B

OASI/DI/IC - Contribution (5%)
Unemployment Insurance (1%)
Pension Contribution Plan no idea how much this should be
Contribution Daily benefit sickness - around 40-50chf a month
Tax at source (Quellensteuer) - varies depending on canton, marital status, church tax, and whether they have children... (? 5% - 8%)

That gives you a total payroll deduction, then you take the housing allowance back off the salary, and pay the balance to their account...

BUT I AM NOT A TAX AGENT - I highly recommend you get one - it's an absolute pain to try to work it out yourself. And I can speak from experience, it's complicated....

Oh, and that's assuming they have to pay Quellensteuer - if they are swiss, then they pay their taxes annually not monthly...

Re: How much will I pay in tax?

I've been thinking about it all weekend... the overall situation is such that my husband will stay in the UK and I am on a fixed term contract of 11 months. So in theory, my nanny can be employed by my family in the UK and then send to work on an assignment to the CH for the 11 months, right? So then in the UK my husband will pay her tax, in CH she will not pay any tax, we will buy her international med. insurance like AXA PPP (or would she need still to take out swiss insurance)? At the end of the financial year nanny won't have any tax to pay as UK tax rates are higher the Swiss.

Am I missing something?

Re: How much will I pay in tax?

I think even if she is on 'assignment' or 'temporary' you still need to sort out residency permission and local obligations...

I do know that a Swiss acquaintance tried to bring a Non-EU Nanny in to Switzerland and it wasn't allowed...but if your Nanny has a british passport it's probably very easy to set it up...

Maybe a tax agent could help you in Switzerland ?

yep she is British (i've given up on any ideas about any other nationals). I remember I worked on an assignment in CH years ago, and I didn't' have to take out insurance etc. It was for a large counsulting company and I worked on a project for 7 months or so...

The law changed on insurance around 1999 /2000, I managed for nearly 5 years with BUPA International!
