Anyone able to confirm or deny that the SNB's gold is under Paradeplatz?

Re: Gold

There are different rumours, but the locations are actually secret so you will never find out unless you start digging...

It is common belief that a lot of gold is stored under the Bundesplatz in Bern, but of course no official source will confirm this.

Re: Gold

Paradeplatz is UBS or Credit Suisse. But AFIAK it is not used anymore.

You have to dig further up the Banhofsstrasse at the ZKB.

Another spot would be the Stadthausanlage/Bürkliplatz (Zurich branch of the Nationalbank) where each Saturday the flea-market is.

Well you could ask the Nationalbank straight up, but if they told you, they'd have to kill you.

But why don't people find this silly? Why don't they demand an independent audit or something? I mean, the gold belongs to the government (so in some ways, it's the "people's" gold). Don't the people have somewhat of a "right" to know that their gold even exists?

It exists. In mind boggling quantities , deep underground, in Zurich.

Were I so inclined, I could organise a trip down into the vaults. It's not a secret where it is kept, public visits are allowed and can be arranged through the right people.

Re: Gold

You mean, it might be sold already, similar to what that weirdo senator in the US claims: that Fort Knox has been empty for quite a while?

It doesn't matter too much, IMO.
The sad fact is that most of the money that technically exists on my bank-accounts has already been given-out as loans to house- and car-buyers.

It's been empty because Fort Knox is now used to store the Area 51 spaceship.

All the gold in the world could be pilled up on a tennis court, whilst it's value is mind boggling & absurd, the quantity in Swiss Bank Vaults is not very large.

It's true that the total volume of known gold is surprisingly small. All the mined gold in the world fits in a cube with about 20.2 m sides. On a 78' x 36' tennis court (for doubles), you'd have to pile it pretty high though.

Re: Gold

If you would start digging on Bahnhofstrasse, and lets just assume you would not be stopped by some very angry faces, you would end up in the UBS/CS/ZKB vaults which are accesable by the public. Anyone can hire a safe deposit box by any of these banks.

Thy do store some of there gold on Bahnhofstr, but recently when gold started to become so popular to investors and banks started offering ETF"s (gold on paper and thy are obligated to have the amount on the paper stored in phisical gold) there was so much gold on Bahnhofstr the floor of the vaults just coudnt carry them anymore so most of the KG were moved to dif. SECURE locations around Switzerland, sorry to burst u bubble and guess you should reconsidre quiting you job

How much gold is there ?

In the world there are currently somewhere between 120,000 and 140,000 tonnes of gold ‘above ground’. To visualise this imagine a single solid gold cube with edges of about 19 metres (about three metres short of the length of a tennis court). That's all that has ever been produced.
Divided amongst the population of the world there are about 23 grams per person, about 1.2 cubic centimetres each.
