Tax & Kids

Hi all,
Does anyone know how it works with the Tax system & kids? I have a child that doesn't live with me (ie. not in CH) but I AM responsible for her & pay monthly maintenance. So do I then get the lower taxation rate? Or do I just pas as though I were single w/out kids?
Thanks in advance

Matt

Re: Tax & Kids

Hello,

As far as I know and what they did with me is, until they start living with me they are considering me as single, if you need to get the tax benefit only way the Kid has to be registered in Switzerland and have a dependant permit, then you can send them back or whatever

Regards

Re: Tax & Kids

I am in exact same situation and maintain a child in UK. I wish I could get some tax benefits here - I get 1500 CHF of tax benefit for maintaining a home in UK (my own and not where the child lives) ...

Re: Tax & Kids

Capital gains realised on the sale of kids are part of your ordinary income and are normally taxed. Any costs related to this are tax deductible......

sorry.....veeery slow day at the office

On a serious note... the monthly support should be deductible, maybe you should check with a local tax advisor. EDIT: tax advisor being a small local firm, not 1 of the big 4 (they cost a fortune).

Re: Tax & Kids

I posted a similar question here a month or so ago and someone replied that with a separation or divorce agreement it is possible to have any maintenance deducted. As additional evidence of payment it was suggested to make sure the payments are labelled as maintenance.

Found the thread.
