(Non-traditional) currency exchange at Zurich airport?

Hello everyone,

I will be soon moving to Switzerland to start a master's program at ETH Zurich. So far, everything has gone pretty smoothly but for one notable exception: exchanging currency.

Basically, my problem is that the country I come from (Venezuela) has in place a very strict control on currency exchange. I have requested the Venezuelan government for authorization to obtain the hard currency I need, but this approval is likely to take a while longer. Since my trip is pretty close now, this is not exactly good news. So it's time for some "outside the box" thinking.

Now, coincidentally, a few days ago some random person posted in Twitter that "the only way to sell bolivares (Venezuelan currency) abroad is at the UBS located in Zurich Airport, at an exchange rate of 5.60 VEF/CHF (close to the official rate) and a maximum of 600 CHF".

Do any of you have any idea if this is true? I would find it really weird that a big bank such as UBS (or anyone with a sound mind, actually) would take Monopoly money in exchange for hard currency. But this tweet made me really curious.

So, if anyone happens to know whether this is true or just wishful Venezuelan thinking, it would be tremendously appreciated

Greetings!

Here's a list of all the banks located at the airport. Give them a call (click on "details" to see UBS's phone number).

Thanks, that sounds pretty reasonable. I'll try to give them a call tomorrow and tell you if I get lucky or not
