Converting unsorted Euro Coins within Basel area

Does anybody know where it is possible to convert unsorted Euro coins in the Basel area? Are there any banks over either border with change machines available to non-account holders?

Thanks

Re: Converting unsorted Euro Coins within Basel area

I've got a big bowl full of Euro coins that I'd like to convert back to paper money -- when I did a similar exercise with my bowl of Swiss francs, it added up to several hundred chuffs, so "put it in the charity box at McDonalds" isn't really the answer I'm looking for.

After doing some digging, I've seen allusions to the fact that many Leclerc supermarkets have machines that will accept the coins and spit out a voucher for use in the store. I vaguely recall seeing a machine at the St. Louis store, tucked away at the far left-hand side (behind the pharmacy), but I'm not sure of my memory.

Before I lug several kilos of coins across the border, can anyone confirm whether such a machine exists?

Hi all,

So, did anyone find a solution for this? I'm looking for EUR coin to EUR note/ CHF note conversion facility. Thanks.

Cheers,

Darsu

I use them for parking (the meters usually take them)

Some French supermarkets have self service tills that accept coins, you can give as many coins as you want. Nothing to stop you going to customer services & taking whatever you bought back if you just wanted notes or larger coins.

Re: Converting unsorted Euro Coins within Basel area

I'm resurrecting this yet again.. I've got loads of Euro Coins.

I don't want to open a German Bank account. I have too many to just occasionally put a few in parking machines.

Are there any other options around Basel/DE/FR ?

I liked the idea of putting loads into a machine at the supermarket that prints out a credit voucher.. anybody got any details ? ?

Does anybody know what will happen if I just walk into the UBS with them and ask them to credit my account ?

Some vending machines will take them (though not so practical if you have loads).

Even better some still vend at a 1.20 exhange rate, so you shove in 2 EUR, press the reject button and get 2.40 shiny new CHF spit back out at you. Seems weird this hasn't been fixed.

The only place that I've found that's near Basel is the Cora supermarket outside Mulhouse. You can exchange your coins for a voucher to use in the store.

If anyone finds something closer, it would be great to have an update.

I take pre-counted coins and spend them at McDonalds? The only way to make a McRib more satisfying? Pay for it in eurocent shrapnel.
