Alternatively wait for everything to tank and buy it on the cheap, when I say tank I mean like the dax hitting 4000 or lower

Ok, since the replies so far have been so helpful.

LET ME REPHRASE:

How do you invest that little money that you put aside with lots of years of hard work so that at the end (retirement or whatever) you have a nice return or at least the same buying value as when you invested it.
I buy candy bars with little money.

Ok, seriously? I scrambled myself a portfolio and I trade it.
No stocks, only derivatives.
I also have some long term stuff on the side like bonds.

Re: What do you do with Your MONEY?

Actually I was not asking is not about a huge amount of money at one time, but about money you have left at the end of the year after taxes that you want to put aside. Regardless if it is 50k or 500k (I wish) at the end of the year.

Hi

The title sounds stupid I know, but it got Your attention.
So, in view of the warnings about a bubble in the property market and warnings against off-shore investments (such as the ones offered by our beloved Beers and Chasers), banks paying almost no interest...

the question is: what to do with your money???
To be able to answer this question truthfully, I need to be in this sort of situation first. My questions is, how does it feel when you have money left in your (or bank) after taking care of all necessities?

I wasn't taking about large amounts of money. You can get into the stuff that I mentioned even with small amounts of money (except the agricultural land but even here, I believe there are agricultural land funds).

right now a lot of (as in virtually all) shares are clearly and massively undervalued. But don't watch the market on a daily basis as you'll be tearing your hair out. My strategy is to invest and forget. I believe that in two to five years I'll have some decent returns.

Spend and save

Spend on things which bring joy to my life - and make sure that once the working day is over I know why I sold my soul.

Save into a pension + 3rd pillar + property.

Our mountain getaway is a big enough to live in permenantly - so when the time is right - we leave the big costs of living where we do at the moment - and move there.

If you're asking now you are already too late. The answer was gold.
Not if you invested in 1979, it would have been a terrible investment, it has been good aver the last 10 years as nobody wanted it & it had been loosing money for the past 10 years, rather like stocks today

In a government guaranteed, term deposit in Australia earning a tidy 6% whilst we wait for it all to tank and then buy shares.

However the currency could easily fall more than that 6% that's guaranteed.

Yes, that it could do. But as it was mainly in Australian dollars when we earned it and we're not planning on moving it until it's worthwhile, it's not a problem.

Unless you intend to spend thost dollars in Australia it's irrelivent. Any government who needs to pay 6% today shouts high risk to me.

The interest rates in Australia are high. The government has guaranteed the major banks to the tune of $250'000 per person per bank. The bank is paying us 6%.

We don't need the money and have no intention of spending it until it benefits us. As we don't earn much money in Australia our tax on the interest is low.

If it all goes pear, we move back to Australia when we retire and spend it there. Simples
