I am looking for 'value', I don't care what other people will pay, paying 18 times earnings for an ordinary business is just crazy.

Apple is an exceptional business, nobody was intretested in it 18 odd years ago since then the price has risen 100 times.
I understand - its more about the kind of stock you are looking to invest in....

For me - paying 20x earnings for a pretty much guaranteed 4% dividend return, some stock price increase over the long term (Coke, Nestle, P&G, Exxon) is better than trying to either double your money by finding that once in a lifetime investment OR putting your money with CS - but horses for courses

Exxon is on a PE of 9..........
The once in a lifetime investments do not double the go up 100 times , it's why you dont need to find very many in a lifetime. The best may even pay a dividend of over 5% sometimes 10%, & yes it does happen.

I bought DOW chemical at a price in the last 3 years that gets me a 11.80 percent return on my money via dividends, not to mention the stock, today, has tripled in value.

Now that is what I call a smart buy!

Well done.

Thanks, I put everything I had, that I could take out, at the time. And it certainly yields more then the T Bills I had the money in before.
