Advice please about taxation issue relating to residence

Hello! I recently moved to Zurich and have been living in temp acco provided by the employer in Zurich and move to my own place next month in Horgen. Now the tax in Horgen is lower but I have been told that I will have to Zurich tax for the entire year and wont be able to claim back anything despite living in Horgen despite Zurich acco was temp. I was told that I will only benefit from Horgen low tax in 2014 when I file return for 2013. Is there any way I can get the lower tax rate for this year? I only lived in Zurich temp due to my relocation.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Rgds

Re: Advice please

My experience is that you are taxed where are resident at the end of the year. In 2008 moved from Zurich to Zug so was taxed at the Zurich rate for the months I was living in Zurich and at Zug rates for the remaining months of the year.

Of course in this case there was a move from one kanton to another. However, I have been told that this is also the case within a kanton. Best to check with a tax advisor or even HR.

Re: Advice please

You are normally taxed based on your residence on 31 December, but I don't know if this applies to B-permits, or is just for Swiss and C permit holders.

Re: Advice please about taxation issue relating to residence

The rule is as follows (for "normal income"): if one changes domicile within the canton, tax is payable where the domicile was on 01.01. If two or more cantons are involved- the tax will be paid according to the tax rate of the municipality on 31.12. There are exceptions regarding certain one-time payments.
