How to get tax back after contribution to 3a pillar?

Hi,

I joined a 3a pillar pension fund last year and was told I could get some tax back from the Kanton Bern this year before March. But I have no idea how to go about doing this. Can someone help?

Thanks.

You should be able to claim it back using the standard tax form.

Re: How to get tax back after contribution to 3a pillar?

I've actually never received a standard tax form before. I've always been taxed at source and the tax office never send me a tax form at the end of the year.

Then your best bet is to ring the tax office and ask them directly.

Re: How to get tax back after contribution to 3a pillar?

Which part of the form does it go into? The income or wealth side? Although, I've been filling in our tax form for a few years now, this is the first year where we have a 3a pillar to include.

Income side it's a deduction!

Re: How to get tax back after contribution to 3a pillar?

hi folks. probably a silly question but i dont know much about these sorts of things (yet!). But regarding the pillar 3a and the tax form you are talking about - this is separate to a tax return one would fill in if you were earning 120+K?

i am currently taxed at source. however, i have been told to do a tax return for 2012. I have been ignorant of pillar 3a contributions and trying to understand if its worth it?? apparently it gets taxed when you withdraw it in the end?

The same one.

Taxed at a low rate on exit, spending somewhat where you live or the location of the fund if you no live in CH

There are a couple of threads debating the pros and cons.

The form won't come to you. You need to pick it up at Gemeindehaus at Finanzverwaltung, fill it in with all claims and then return it back to them. They will send it further to cantonal Steuern for tax calculation and etc. At least that's how it works with us each year.

I think that may be cantonal. We get ours by post. There is also free software, but you still need the cover page to submit with the printout.

Re: How to get tax back after contribution to 3a pillar?

I contributed to 3a pillar in 2012 but was too late to fill in the form in 2013 March. Can I fill a new form in 2014 before March for the contributions I made in 2012?

Any reply on this will be highly appreciated.

So you never filled in a 2012 return? You can always ask for and almost always get an extension. Even now, I would consider trying to submit a return if it will save you money.

Re: How to get tax back after contribution to 3a pillar?

I did send them the form but the post delivered on April 2, 2 days before the March 31, 2013 deadline. I have not heard from them since then. So I am wondering what I can do now. I do appreciate that extra 1000.

I guess they have not got round to doing your tax, same with mine. It varies between 9 - 18 months from experience.

Submitting 2 days late is not going to worry them at all.

But that you got no statement yet is also not a cause for alarm, these guys are not at all efficient. I get my final tax statement later and later every year, this year it was end of november.

If you're really worried give them a ring.

Not necessarily true; husband submitted his returns two days late (in Geneva) a few years ago and was told in no uncertain terms that he'd therefore lost the refund he was due.
The fact that it took them nearly eight months to process the paperwork once it was in their hands was irrelevant, late on his part was late.
He were offered the choice of appealing, but there was a charge of a couple of thousand francs (up front) to do this.

I guess you don't have to pay tax either, sounds like a winner to me
