Re: UK tax when not a UK resident

If a couple move to Switzerland, and one party earns in Switzerland a Swiss salary into a Swiss account, and the other works remotely for a UK company and gets paid into a UK bank account, is the income of the UK party only taxable in the UK ie there is no further tax in Switzerland on that income already taxed in the UK?

(Apart from wealth tax on the saved element)

If they are married, there is a very good chance that HMRC will not accept they have left permanantly for a settled purpose, they are just working away but ordinarily resident in the UK. That would mean a UK tax liability on world wide income regardless of the no of days spent in the UK. The UK tax system is self assesment, it's your responsibility to pay what you owe, not wait to be asked.

From next year there will be a staturary definition of residence & by spending only 6 days in the UK you would be definately non resident, depending on your other conections with the UK probably far more, however the 1 st year away will be less days allowed, in most cases.

There will be a Swiss tax liability of anybody living here on the UK income, however due to double tax agreements, the Swiss tax is probably less than the UK tax so nothing will be payable, however it should be declaired.
