Customs to bring in household and personal items?

Hello.
I'm new to the forum - moving to Lugano next month. I'm sure there must be a thread about this but can't find it.
As I'm storing my belongings until I find an apartment (have temporary lodging set up by my new employer until then), a shipping company will be transporting them in for me. I assume I will have to send them all my paperwork once I'm registered and have a work permit in hand, so that they can bring my stuff across the border (from Germany). Is there anything else I need to know/do/be aware of? I have a small number of furniture items (couch, TV, kitchen stuff) and a number of boxes of personal belongings.

Thanks for any information!

Another newbie posting a random question in the finance section? This is getting to be a trend lately. Here's some useful information for newbies to Switzerland (wouldn't want you to miss it before it slips off the page):

Thanks for the responses.

Actually I didn't post in Finance - I posted under Housing but my post was moved by a mod, as presumably customs questions belong in this section.

Customs on mailed personal goods?

Hi All
I'm moving to Switzerland at the end of this month (from Germany). Most of my household goods will be sent separately by a moving company after I've found an apartment. However as I'll need some stuff, and can't carry it all on the train with me, I'm hoping to mail a couple of boxes to myself (at my new employer) - are there are any problems to consider in advance? Will customs be charged, and if so how is that handled? (I'm thinking only a few clothes, sheets and towels). Thanks for any advice.

If customs papers show 'personal effects' there will be no liability, that does not mean that they won't try to charge you!
