Found bank card

On route to work this morning I found someones bank card on the floor. I thought I had seen threads about this but can't find.

Do I just hand it to the bank or police ?

Thanks

The bank is fine, cut it in half first.

Re: Found bank card

Why cut it in half? It is a bank card, not a credit card. Just post it or hand it in on Tuesday.

It's still potentially usable just like a credit card.

Re: Found bank card

If you cut it in half you may as well throw it in the bin. In the end the owner will get a new card.

Hand it in whole, to either.

What is troubling me more, is why were you working on Good Friday anyway?

Do you work for a bunch of heathens?

Strange .... there appears to be more restrictions relating to Good Friday, than any other day - including Christmas.

Depends on the canton, here it's a normal working day.

Re: Found bank card

I have not cut it in half as yet. I was going to phone the bank on Tuesday to see what they advise.

I have also tried contact the guy through various social media, narrowing it down to several potentials if the guy uses such things.

Why was I going to work? ha, the Americans on the forum will know why.

And I am still here

Why? Its intrinsic value is close to nothing. The bank will just cancel that card and issue a new one. Simply return it, in two bits if you like, to a bank and say you found it.

If I dropped/lost a bank card and some weirdo tracked me down online to return it, I'd call the bank and ask for a replacment immediately and even consier letting the police know that the person who "found" my card is trying to find me.

Re: Found bank card

A friend found a bank card earlier this year that had been left in a shop.

She was not prepared to hand it to the shop staff on the off chance the person would go back there and immediately called the bank number on the reverse of it.

She did as they advised which was to cut it in two and send it to the bank at the address also stated on the card.

Simples.

My mother found somebody's wallet just left on a wall the other day, when she tracked down the owner and returned it, it turned he "just left it there" while he went to get his bike! some people are very silly....

Why?

Because when I lost my bank card / actually left in the machine, I was annoyed.

At the time, I was not convinced if I had left it at home, lost it, or left it in the machine I had used the evening before.

Only when I realised did I panic. Some 10hours post last using it.

Upon phoning the bank to check if any activity had occured and getting the all clear, I was asked whether I wanted the card cancelled and replaced. 50chf for cancelling, 20chf for replacement. I said hold on that until I checked at home.

I pieced together my last usage and realised that I think I had left in the machine. I followed up with the bank and they tracked it to said machine and I had it returned in the post.

So: if Mr Missing Card hasn't realized yet, or had the opportunity to cancel re: public holiday (bank number was automated machine). Then he might be pleased to know Mr Helpful has found it and is trying to return it saving him:

a) cancel fee
b) replacement fee
c) A period without a card
d) Taking time off to go to the post office to invevitably retrieve the post he was not into sign for.

Re: Found bank card

Must be a Swiss bank thing. When my apartment was broken in to a few weeks ago here and all my bank and credit cards stolen (all UK ones, my Swiss ones were in my wallet on me) they were all immediately cancelled, and new ones issued, totally without charge by all four banks.

Re: Found bank card

To Adrian who thinks the card has no value just wait until you need a replacement card - 40 Fr.

I would not worry too much if I lost my UBS card. It needs a pin and can't be uased online. So if some kind person was able to return it to me before I reported it lost then great.

Wasn't aware this was charged for here.

But really ... you lose your card and someone tracks you down through a series of social networking web sites. They have your card number, 3 digit security number from the back, your signature, most likely your address and maybe even your date of birth. And you'd just take the card back and not get it cancelled? I'd not take that risk.

My postfinance card here cracked, I went online and logged a customer service message saying it still works but is badly cracked, can I have a new one? And a new one arrived in the post about a week later. No charge.

Nah - I think it must depend on the bank.
