Pension for housewives?

My wife do not have permanent employment and woked for only a short period of time. Just wondering if she would be eligible to get some kind of pension or support from goverment when she reaches the pension age.

Re: Pension for housewives?

When you, her spouse, contribute and then receive a pension, you will receive the 'couple' based pension, ie. it is higher than an individual pension so as to provide for her and you. If one of you were to die, it would then be lowered to the single/widow pension, the amount or percent depends on who was the earner(s) was and who died first.

Re: Pension for housewives?

Yes, I work and contribute to the pension fund. But my wife is 10 years younger than me. So when I retire, I get a couple based pension? And if I die earlier, then she will be getting a single/widow pension?
Thanks in advance.

What options are available for non married couples. I too have a partner who looks after our children and has worked in Switzerland in the past, however gave up work when the children came along! Can she (or myself put some money aside) contribute anywhere financially i.e. into a pillar?

Check the rules of your pension fund, mine allows you to designate a partner of long standing to receive the same benefits as in the case of married couples.
