Changing CHF to EUR

Quick one guys, I'm going to an EUR spending country for a week, should I just take money out with my card there or is there a place to get a good exchange rate. In the UK I just went to the Post Office but I don't know who gives the 'best' rates here.

Re: CHF to EUR

If I happen to go Euro shopping, I drop by the Volksbank in Jestetten and the rates are decent, at least for me.

I was told by a friend that City Change on Josefstrasse 110 (right off Langstrasse) has the best exchange rates in Zurich. Haven't used them yet though and don't know how they would compare to your card.

Re: Changing CHF to EUR

Colleague at work suggested I just take EUR from the Swiss cash point, how does that seem in comparison?

That's the quick and easy way. Works for me when I need Euros and the rate is normally pretty good.

Re: Changing CHF to EUR

Unless you are changing a large amount, meaning at least 25k, there is very little in it. By the time you've gone here and there, spent money on parking, time wasted etc it just doesn't really make much sense.

Go to your bank take it out from your account directly in Euros from the magic money machine, spend it, repeat as often as necessary

Re: Changing CHF to EUR

How MUCH are you talking about here?
What is your idea of a GOOD RATE?

I have an Euro account, and I get around 1.24chf to the Euro. Sometimes it goes down to 1.22 etc.

If you are talking about 500-1000Euros, I agree with some kind posters here, just go to the bancomat and take the cash in Euros.
If you are buying an auto for say 20k Euros, then that is a different story.

I hope this helps.

Re: Changing CHF to EUR

I withdrew some Euros earlier this week from my own bank's ATM and got them at 1.232 (with no extra charges or commission). I reckon that is a pretty decent rate.

Very convinient, I do that all the time. Defo better than taking Euros from your bank account from abroad, you pay around 5 Franks for that

Re: Changing CHF to EUR

What options do you have if you are changing a large amount - say 25,000 +

I go to a local bank, and ask them at the counter for preferred rates.
Or I go to a friend who is working inside a BANK to get their staff rates.
Many options for you.

Re: Changing CHF to EUR

take it from the Atm, they will charge you above the inter bank rate but you will have the best deal than exchanging it elsewhere for smaller amount
