Re: Getting a small loan on L permit after 6 months

Apply for some credit cards, that's your best hope. Or start borrowing from family.

For the most part, we buy things with the cash we have. In this kind of culture, you will find it hard to get an unsecured loan for a temporarily-resident alien.
Warning: unsolicited opinion ahead

And thank god for that! I am personally sick and tired of the mentality "I'll buy stuff I cannot afford NOW and then someone else will bail me out later". AAGGGGGHHH!

***************************
Back on topic: OP, I googled "small loans Switzerland" and there is a list of hits that come back, some are the "usual suspect" banks, some are others I've never heard of. Perhaps try to get quotes from them, but I would imagine that the rates might be quite high. Please be careful regarding scams!

Also, check out this thread and this thread, where there are quite a few suggestions. Good luck, and congratulations on your wedding!

I am confused.

Who books a wedding, invites guests from different countries, and then ponders how they will pay for it?

What am i missing?
you're missing a scam, op finds some mug to lend him 20k at 20% interest, then you never see or hear them again

Seems like there is a gap in the market for lending to L-Permit holders...

Yeh but given this guy's circumstances I don't see a big problem. Yes there is a risk you'll never hear from him again but that's the same risk against someone with a B-Permit.

Checks that can be done to reduce the risk:
  • check identity documents
  • copy of employment contract both for him and wife to be
  • tenancy agreement
  • 12 months bank statements
  • civil marriage certificate
  • reference letters from university where op graduated from + degree certificate
A notorised loan agreement in both spouses names will reduce the risk further.

Edit: Should probably add to the list; A credit check from the country of origin as well as a Betreibungsauskunft from local authority where the OP has resided since moving to Switzerland.

So why not loan him the money then?

1) I haven't got CH30k to lend
2) I don't think it's wise to undertake this as an individual as the risk is too high against just one person, but for a small lender this could well be a genuine potential client.

No idea where the OP comes from- but perhaps he is under huge cultural pressure to to the 'big wedding performance'. A friend of mine is a hmong and they just had to invite huge numbers to the wedding- or leave the community forever.

Re: Getting a small loan on L permit after 6 months

I'll lend you the money for a period of 5 years, with 20% p.a. interest.
Only condition is: I require the payment of the total interest upfront.

Sorry, could not resist.
No, really, give this guy a break. Weddings are expensive and it is human nature to want a wedding worth remembering. And that thing with L permit really sucks!

Everyone agrees and recognises this I think.....Once you have saved up or planned how you will pay for it.

P.S. scoring a cheeky loan a couple months before is not good planning

Re: Getting a small loan on L permit after 6 months

Dear OP
While some of the advice on this thread may seem harsh, I would recommend you seriously give is consideration when you are slightly calmer.

Having said that, it is after your life and what is important to you will not be important to another

Should you still want to proceed on this path, the only recourse I can think of are P2P lending sites
A quick google revealed
https://www.cashare.ch
http://www.creditloan.ch/

not had any personal experience with this, so should you decide to go down this path despite all advice (some not given so politely), on an academic level I would be curious on how that process went.
Please do post that on this thread / PM me on how it went

Did you look at how old the post is! The OP is likely not even in the country anymore if they only had an L permot and no money

It's not your fault. The thread was revived by a spammer. You replied after that post. Once it was removed, you looked like the oddball for replying to an old thread.

Maybe it is the same person as the one who now wants his marriage annulled? Because he never got the 20k paid back for the wedding?
