Please help me! Need to get a loan in Geneva

Hello everyone,

I am a female student from HongKong. I have just arrived in Geneva last week. I am now taking my postgraduate in Geneva in a private university, so the tuition fee is really high CHF36000.

My situation at present is I have an amount of money, if I spend it for my living costs ( housing, insurance, eating, mobile...) I will not have enough money for my tuition fee. In contrast, when I use all of my money for tuition fee, I cannot survive in Geneva.

I have applied for the student permit already, but they said that I must wait some months before receiving my official Residence Permit. Then, I see that I cannot get any loans from bank at present.

So, can anyone suggest me solutions? In my country, there are person/organization offer loans without mortgage and monthly income. Are there something like that in Geneva? Yeah, I don`t have a full time job. Currently, I need a loan of CHF15000. And I can only pay back after finishing my program (1year)

Can anyone tell me where I can find financial aids, please?

Thank you, all advices are gratefully!

Financial aid and student loans should be secured in your home country. It's not likely you will find a loan in Switzerland without income. And I'm surprised that you were granted a student visa without having your finances in place.

Sorry you are in such a predicament. Can you not get some help from your parents, family?

The whole amount of money I have is from my parents, my previous university support, my local educational organizations and my own savings. So I cannot ask more from them. I need to find a loan or something like that. They issued me the student visa because it is enough to live in Switzerland, but I guess that they didn't take into account my tuition fee

Aren't there loan from outside, except the official companies like banks or financial consultants?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collateral_(finance)

Quote:
In lending agreements, collateral is a borrower's pledge of specific property to a lender, to secure repayment of a loan. The collateral serves as protection for a lender against a borrower's default - that is, any borrower failing to pay the principal and interest under the terms of a loan obligation.

If a borrower does default on a loan (due to insolvency or other event), that borrower forfeits (gives up) the property pledged as collateral - and the lender then becomes the owner of the collateral.

When you registered with your university, did they ask you to show your financial health / ability to pay for fees plus living?

Have you asked this Swiss French person to assist you in living and other associated costs to your stay and study in CH ?

That person gave me some money already, I shouldn't ask too much.

So there are no person/organization offer loan without mortgage or income in geneva, switzerland, right? in my country, there are thousands of partners do that. Of course they ask a higher interest rate.

Not something you want to hear but I would advise you to go back home or try a university in the UK. It will be cheaper. Geneva is a cold place to be in with no financing in place

There you go, problem solved. Just take a loan from HK company. Simples.

I think with a student visa you should be able to work some hours a week. You may have to find a part time job.

Do you come from Greece?

Who is going to lend you money when you have no income? Seriously? And especially when you will probably not be able to stay in Switzerland when you graduate!

Honestly - there are lots of very sweet people on EF who will try to help with advice, but I'm really very doubtful whether you are either telling the truth OR the whole story. You will not have been able to register for school (and hence for a permit) without demonstrating financial health.

So - try telling us the complete story and maybe THEN, we can help. How did you manage to register without showing your financial records?

Re: Please help me! Need to get a loan in Geneva

This is incredible! You arrive here and in less then a week release you have only about 75% of the money you will require for your uninversity and now you expect some bank to come to the rescue when you have zero collateral and a slim promise you could pay it back after you finish no source of income, hence there is actually no way you can convince any organisation you have any capacity to repay them.

No organisation is going to buy this one here, bes you go back to where you started before the authorities realise and kick you out.

For a postgraduate student you are pretty silly to even think you can study here without even having the necesssary funds and then to think the swiss will just throw money at you!

You mean Switzerland is not a fantasy country where people get money without actually working? No!

You mean its an actual country like all the others were you have to earn your money somehow and nobody hands you anything on a plate? Really? Who knew...
