Buying gold bars in Zurich

I'll be visiting Zurich for a few days and would like to buy physical USB gold bars.

1) If I go to a USB branch in Zurich, will they have 100g bars ready or do I have to order them then come back later?

2) Can I buy with my credit card, or they require other forms of payment?

3) Do they sell all their gold sealed with a certificate, or would they give me bare bars without sealing?

4) Will I buy at the day's gold prices, or is there a markup on the price? If yes, approximately how much in % ?

Thanks

Re: Buying gold bars in Zurich

Is there a particular reason that you wish to buy a bar from UBS?
Credit Suisse polishes their bars more often, so i hear- its a far better product.

Normally there is a different price if you are a member of the bank that you purchase from, rather than just walking in off the street.
Otherwise, yes, you would get the price for the gold, at that particular nanosecond at the time of purchase. Just like a share.

We do have a stack of 100gm bars, but for various reasons, we usually keep them in the vault rather than at the branches. So you can order them at the counter, but would have to come back later to pick it up.
I suggest going to "Paradeplatz"- it's easy to find.
You could try going from bank to bank in order to get a better price, but remember that the price will change in the time that it takes you to walk from one building to the next. It will have little to do with the power of the salesperson or the quality of the product, like when purchasing a car for example. Its called Market Rules.

In this country, we call it commodities trading. Its quite big business really.
https://marketdataresearch.credit-su...&selectedtab=0

And yes, the bars have individual numbers on them, to say where and when they are made. Yes, you would get a certificate.

We also do 10gm and 12kg blocks, and a few in between, if you're interested.

I believe your country made everyone here prove where they got their money from, something to do with laundering money acquired by criminal means.
So you might need to prove to the bank that you are a law abiding visitor, and have paid taxes on your money.

you can buy from UBS or Credit Suisse. Can pay cash or credit card no issues. Its certified sealed bar. they have a selling and buying price so obviously they have a markup

Re: Buying gold bars in Zurich

You may even have to open an account, I buy from UBS but credit suisse won't sell to be because I dont have an account with them...

This might be a small town policy ? I can order over the phone and collect the next day, this took a few months to set up because they normally will want to see you in the bank...

Their buy/sell rate seems to change I think to the amount of the increase or decrease in the spot price, the smaller the weight you buy the higher premium you pay but small 1 gram bars can be much better to play with

Thanks! I will buy credit suisse then from the main office in Paradeplatz.

Do you work there? Do they accept credit card from people who have no account with the bank? And, how long will it take to order my 100g bar? I will only be in Switzerland for 7 days.

Thanks all for responses.

As an American not living in Switzerland, he will not be able to open an account. This has been discussed to death in another thread. Ordering it in advance is the normal way to go, and would assume it would be cash only. Like for like. You should call in advance UBS or Credit Suisse to check their procedures, before getting there to find out they need more time. As my bank needs 5 to 7 days to order buillon.

Also, don't forget. If coming back into the US, you will have to declare it to customs, and it is better to provide a certificate of that purchase. Good luck.

have you actually looked at the UBS website?

have you typed "gold" into the search bar?

have you seen the 3 addresses it gives you?

have you clicked the "quotes" link on the same page that gives you the buy and sell prices?

That pretty much answers all my questions, thanks a lot! One last Q- is there a tax refund scheme to refund any taxes I paid as I leave Europe?

Re: Buying gold bars in Zurich

UBS has plenty of 100g bars ready behind the counter. They can give it to you right there. I recommend that you only pay with cash in CHF. I have only purchased in cash. I walk in with my cash, walk out with the gold bars. No questions asked. Nobody asks my name and address or passport. Don't be an amateur. Pay cash. If you're buying a lot, go to different locations and buy 2-3 bars per location.

The bars are sealed in a plastic laminate with the certification paper inside the plastic laminate as well. You can get the prices here:

https://quotes-public2.ubs.com/app/C...kbench/wb/home

Choose "Metals/Coins" on the left hand menu.

Now, the real question is, where are going you going to store the gold? That's more important than where you're going to buy the gold. I'm not sure if the banks here allow you to open ONLY a safety deposit box. I happen to have accounts at the places where I also have safety deposit boxes. And I live here in Switzerland so it's not a problem for me.

I don't know how US nations can open only safety deposit boxes here.

People who permanently reside outside Switzerland can claim a refund of VAT on goods they purchase here. VAT on purchases made at Zurich Airport will also be refunded.

why not use the Gold-O-Mat. Insert your card, and buy gold at the machine.

I know it was there 16 years ago - can anyone confirm it is still there on Bahnhofstrasse? Somewhere around St Annahof...

Re: Buying gold bars in Zurich

I ll sell you some UBS 100gram bars, how many do you want?

You can do a direct bank transfer when the money is cleared I will deliver it to you or leave it a branch for your collection, I won't give it away but it will be somewhere around the price the bank will charge you.

PM me for more details...
