Sorry but what kind of bullsh!t is this? A collapsing Euro wouldn't mean war!! Where would people work - markets and employment would suffer equally, if not more, in CH as/than anywhere else !!!
And what makes you so sure of this? The fact that several countries in Europe didn't cave to the Euro is one of the major reasons it hasn't collapsed yet. Switzerland is far more stable than its Socialist neighbors on the West and East.

i don't see 20 minutes as being unreliable if they provide a direct quote from the Defense Minister.
What if the Defence Minister is unreliable?

I use history books as a source of information. i don't see 20 minutes as being unreliable if they provide a direct quote from the Defense Minister.
Including if they intentional only quote part of an article and look for the part that gives the same message they are interested in, cut and paste newspapers are not the most reliable but they are good for a laUgh

How funny would it be if he was the OP?

This is a very serious concern and nothing to laugh at. The original article was in 20 Minutes...

You forgot to mention North, South, and other side of the pond!

Good, tinfoil hat reporting
If you don't trust infowars.com... the story was reported in the Swiss media e.g. in 20 Minuten (German) or last week's Der Sonntag (PDF, German).
Or google for "stabilo due" yourself and see what comes up.

Re: Austria vs Switzerland--if EU explodes, Euro crashes?

They've got to give the lads something to do, not being a proper army with proper wars to fight, so why not give them something a bit topical?

Nothing to see here etc etc...

I am considering returning to Vienna, Austria where I lived for many years. I am finding Switzerland very difficult: finding a decent place to live, getting my 5 year old into childcare while I work, and many other things. I am a single mom.

In Vienna grocery stores are open longer, there are more options for childcare, housing is not as hard to find and much cheaper. It seems like things cater more to working moms in Austria than CH.

I am an EU citizen so maybe I would have more rights in Austria, as I am not a citizen here in CH.

I am self employed and work primarily with expats and that is why I came to Switzerland because there are so many expats here. In Vienna there is a much smaller group of expats so I would need to find other income sources too, maybe teaching English.

My biggest concern about returning to Vienna is the state of the EU right now. If the euro crashes and/or the EU colapses, obviously CH is a better place to be.

I even read the other day, Switzerland is gearing up for a possible influx of refugees from the EU much like the did during WW2. They are getting military in place for crowd control , etc.

Anyone have ideas on this?

E
After the end of the USSR, and the resulting "loss" of the favourite bad enemy (BöFei = Böser Feind) the army-command in Bern worked out a scenario about eastern provinces of France seceding from the Republic, the secessionists being defeated by the central army and trying to push into Switzerland. Other scenarios included Lombardia seceding from Italy and trying to conquer the Ticino, and Austria breaking apart and 100'000s of Vorarlbergers and Tirolers fleeing into St. Gallen Canton. Such "catastrophy-worstcase-scenarios" are filling many desks in the "HighCommand". Forecasting the breakdown of at least the Eurozone or rather of all the E.U. is an old favourite of Ueli Maurer, an experienced scaremonger !

While your comparison between Vienna, a city of the size of half of Switzerland, and Lausanne is rather bizarre, you simply should consider the pro and contra simply for yourself. A cousin of me, she grew up in Geneva, went to live for two or three years in Wien and found it absolutely great. She then returned to Geneva, often came to Zürich for shopping (to escape the high prices in Geneva) but often travelled to Wien for some days of holidays. She was simultaneous translator for Hungarian, French, German, English and Russian at the U.N. (Geneva+Vienna) but then joined a private Geneva based company with not as much stress. Whatever, she much recommended Vienna as a splendid place to live. Alright, as being Budapest born and having lived in Budapest for her first 8 years, she had a kind of "connection" to the Imperial capital of Austria-Hungary !
