Additional income

Dear EF,

I'm looking for your advice and help on the topic below.

I'm employed for 100% and my company is paying my "tax at source" and recently got a contract with other company to provide some service out of the working hours.

This service will give me some additional income and now is my question: do I need to register this additional income somewhere?

Is there some amount until I don't need to register it?

Many thanks for your help.

Re: Additional income

If your second employer is not taking tax from your wages, then you need to keep records and pay tax in January of the following year.

I think you must inform your main employer you have a second job, but I am not certain. Does your contract state anything about commercial competition?

Re: Additional income

I will need to pay all the taxes on my own.

I don't think I have anything like this in my contract but I will have look. Does my main employer will be informed from any authority about my second job?

You will have to pay special tax on "other small earnings" (there is a limitation either by sum or by amount of working hours per week) - 10%. Just go to your Gemeinde and the tax office there will explain you everything.

Re: Additional income

You definitely need to check your contract to see if it permits you to undertake outside work. Some companies will not be happy if you're doing work for someone else that's almost identical to what you do for them. Most are quite happy if it's a completely different area, for example you work in the pharmacutical industry, but also paint landscapes for sale. Check the contract and also let your main employer know.
