Migros vs PostFinance credit card

Hi, I have been looking at Migros credit card vs PostFinance credit card. We shop at Migros most of the time so getting a Migros card makes sense. However, their web site seems to be in D/F/I only! Migros credit card is actually the GE Money bank card. The main web site has has an english version but the login page is actually this one:

https://eservice.gemoneybank.ch/

Can somebody confirm that's the site to log in to check your transactions and pay the card? There's really no english web site or customer service?

My other question is on the PostFinance credit card. The credit card has a chip on it and you need a PIN. Can somebody confirm if signature is required or PIN is enough when shopping at migros or coop or other stores in CH? I prefer PIN over signature because it's faster. There's an old thread from 2009 saying that PostFinance credit card still need signature when grocery shopping. That might have changed.

Thanks
David

No idea about the Migros card, but my Chip&Pin PostFinance Visa works just fine with the PIN except in a very small number of smaller stores where they are still using older versions of the card reader. Certainly all the big chaines have new readers and so you just need the PIN.

Yep, and it's really not that difficult. You get a bill in the post every month with all the transactions listed, and you can pay the orange slip by internet banking. The web site is there as well if you want a day to day update. Cheers

Hi, do you know if it's possible to get all the statements online and pay online? I'm very used to doing everything on the internet without paper. If I get paper statements every month I still need to shred them every month.

I much prefer to download statements from their web site. I guess I'll have to deal with the german web site if I decide to get a card from them.

Thanks,
David

Online, you can view the paper version that you normally get in the mail as a PDF, complete with the orange slip! To stop the "paper flood" you can click "Stoppen Sie die papierflut in Ihren Briefkasten" :-)

When you first sign up to internet viewing/payment they will send you a code in the mail though, as a security check.

Re: Migros vs PostFinance credit card

Just want to say that I also consider PostFinance and Cumulus best CC deals around.

I have a Cumulus card and being in Deutsch is pretty much the only annoyance about their site. The other was when my account was blocked due to several unsuccessful login attempts and I had to call GEMoney Customer Care but that was quick and in English. Everything else is done online. You can get PDF statements and you can pay there. I normally send one big sum and forget about it for several months.

PF cards have the best FX commision and one of the best exchange rates. They also provide some cashback bonuses which might be even handier than Cumulus points for those who don't have close ties with the Migros empire.

So if I ever need a second CC, I'm more than likely to go to PostFinance. The only problem with them is they don't do Euro Credit Cards, unfortunately. But after all, it's only provided by big banks and not by relatively small CC issuers as PF or GEMoney

and another thing to consider, the Migros CC has no annual fee compared to PF which gives you the CC free for 1 year only.

actually PostFinance is not free in the first year either... just that instead of 0.5% cash back on transactions, it gives you 1% cash back on transactions in the first year... I got myself the PostFinance Prepaid Mastercard last year and with normal spending accumulated around CHF88.- worth of cash back... so the CHF50.- annual fee paid back for itself...

I am also a Migros customer, so am strongly considering getting a Cumulus CC now as the points in that add up quite fast too... I am able to collect 500 Cumulus points quite easily every quarter, which means CHF5.- x 4 coupons every year... that too on a free credit card... not a bad deal at all... however I am already in the 2nd year of my PostFinance card, so I'll wait till it is over and cancel it before I get the Migros card...
