Non-US/Non-EU international student. How to pay taxes in Switzerland?

Hello,

I am not US or EU citizen.

I am studying in Switzerland (Zurich). I have a business in my home country. I am on the salary, working remotely.

Being a student I live in Switzerland more than 180 days. Am I supposed to pay taxes from my business in Switzerland? If so do I have to pay in Zurich canton?

Grey area I suspect, but as a student you're not supposed to be working for more than 15 hours a week and that's usually for a Swiss employer, not yourself. I'm not even sure you are allowed to be self-employed as a non-EU student.

Talk to your cantonal tax office. As a resident who's earning you should be paying tax on worldwide income so they'll be the people who can tell you if a) you can work and b) what sort of tax you should be paying.

Since you live in Zürich that's where you have to pay the taxes, if any. For the rest see Medea above.

Does anybody know about a double taxation?

My girlfriend has a similar situation. She's a student in Zürich and on paid leave (during 2016) from her company back in Brazil and they sent her a Tax form for 2016 (she only lived here for a month in 2016 earning something).

She's already going to be taxed on 2016 and they said I need to prove that.

Should I talk to someone or could I put her under my expenses or something like that?

Everyone is taxed individually. You cannot put her under your expenses unless she is physically incapable to work.

The only double taxation treaty between Brazil and Switzerland which I found was this: https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi...111/index.html
It only relates to companies operating aircraft and ships.

In general worldwide incomes wile being resident in Switzerland is taxed. Means in case of your GF this one months income is taxed in Switzerland. But, the actual taxrate applied depends on the total annual income.
