may I ask you how much she charged for the service?

Thank you.

I cannot remember a bill being over 270 francs for the return, ever. I own property and have a medium level of complexity. She has an hourly rate on her website and, even though she seems to reply to emails and ask questions for clarity, it does not make the price creep up.

I am extremely happy with Denise Collin. Thank you for all the recommendations here. She has been very fast with responses

another vote for Denise - especially as I have in the last 30 days received around 40% back on the taxes I paid in 2009. Without question from either local or national tax assessors.

Outstanding price/performance ratio in my opinion.

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

hmmm ..
I got charged over chf 2400 @240/hr to complete 2009 tax return ( flights/rent ) and convince the Tax authorities of B2 tax tariff.
Not sure if that is too expensive..

Unless you have a lot of complex investments, sounds like you were shafted.

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

Can anyone recommend a good tax accountant in the Fribourg area? We've done it ourselves since we started paying Swiss tax, but I can't help thinking we're losing out on a few tricks. Especially as we bought our own place last year, which added a mild complication to the assessment. Does this Denise Collin work only for clients in her own canton?

I concur 100%

I found the contact information to Denise Collin (http://www.colfina.ch/) through this topic on English Forums like many others seeking recommendation of skilled financial services.

It's actually not only Denise, but her and her husband running this Treuhand as a family business from their home in Eiken AG.

They deliver highly competent, uncomplicated, practical and fair priced services on the financial side (and not only tax returns), and after completing my immediate tasks at hand, I can only recommend this treuhand to others.

In case you want to contact Colfina, the number is +41 628758275

Oh and.... happy new year 2011 everyone

Luzern Treuhand

Dear All

Have I missed a personal recommendation for a tax advisor in Luzern? I could not find one so far and would be pleased if someone could post or PM a contact.

Many Thanks,
The Alpine

I know from personal experience that Denise Collin carries out tax work for clients outside of her own canton (Aargau). Whether she is familiar with the regulations in all cantons, or Fribourg and Luzern as specifically queried, I couldn't say. In my case (and many others reported in this thread) we have never actually needed to meet face to face, the only question is whether she is able to find out about non-standard issues in specific cantons.

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

I can whole heartedly second the recommendation from last year for Clint Emerson.

Gerechtigkeitsgasse 31
CH 8001 Zürich, Switzerland
Tel 044.212.51.31
U.S. Tel 701.205.4454
Fax 044.212.51.41
www.emersontax.com

My husband and I have had Clint and his small, smart team do our US taxes for the past two years. They are prompt, organized, and informed.

The initial year's work will cost a bit more than 1000 CHF (because they require more time to get up to speed with your personal situation, and charge hourly), but then the price goes down a bit in subsequent years. The money was very well spent.

We plan on returning to Clint this and future years.

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

Hello all,

I'm a long time lurker but first time poster, so please be gentle with me!

I've been looking through the threads in the finance/tax section with interest, as I will have to fill in my first tax return this year. I realise it's a bit early but even so, I want to be prepared if I can. I've looked through several threads such as "Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant (OP: Mark)" "How to do your tax return Kt ZH (OP: Richard)" and have a question or two of a fairly general nature - I couldn't find it in the threads and so I take the liberty of posting this.

Some background to help: I arrived in Zurich last year (6 Jan 2010) with my wife following in September 2010. She didn't want to leave until finding a job here, etc... We still have an apartment in Montreal which were in the process of selling.

My question(s) relate to how to fill out the tax forms to take account of the fact that my wife was paid her salary in Canada - and thus paid income tax there - before arriving in Switzerland? I know that there is a dual taxation treaty in force between the two countries but how is this actually done on the form? Is it a case of ticking a box and including the tax receipts/T4's from Canada? Also, do I understand correctly that the wealth tax is only applied to foreign (non CH) property for the purposes of the tax bracket, and not actually collected on that wealth? I read on one thread that it was and another implied that it wasn't - and that the ~1% Zurich wealth tax was collected on the value all assets no matter where they were located.

As it is my first return, and my German is still not great (especially when it comes to these things!), I would like to use a tax professional to help - but would a Treuhand be able to handle this level of complexity? Or am I looking at a 'heavyweight' such as Mark mentions in post #1? I have no problem with paying a reasonable fee for a decent service/advice, but I would rather keep the costs down to, say, 750CHF give or take. I read horror stories of fees of 4-5k, which I definitely cannot afford! It seems that Denise (post 109 and others) comes highly recommended but maybe this type of job with dual taxation issues etc. is not her specialism (as well, I understand Zurich is not the canton she is based in)? If anyone has used her for such matters I'd love to hear back from you! Likewise I see Syt (a.k.a DS Tax Consulting) has wide expertise also...

Many thanks in advance for any advice...

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

Paging EF members.. Paging EF members..

Read through the entire thread. Did not find an affordable consultant for the Basel area. I had my employer pay for my return for the first 2 yeaqrs but now I have to pay it. They say that it will cost around 900 which is a bunch of Bull doo doo because I have a simple, one salary tax return.

Any cheap (under 300 CHF) recommendations will be much appreciated.

Hi,
I'm looking for an English-speaking accountant/tax advisor in the Lugano area. I'll be moving there from the US in January and need someone to handle both Swiss and US taxes.
Naten, did you ever find a decent tax person in Lugano? I've a relatively simple situation but its first time for me and am already late!

Any recomendations would be most helpful!

Denise from www.colfina.ch as mentioned in this thread many times.

Yes I figured Denise wouldn't do Ticino, and I've looked through all 10 pages of the thread but all seem to be based up north...I've contacted a lady down here as reccommended by a colleague but no response yet...

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

Just found a lady - works for FIDINAM a big accounting firm down here, she speaks English and is prompt, and she came highly praised by a colleague. I meet her next week and will report back on rates etc. In case anyone needs an English speaking tax consultant in Lugano her name is

Dolores Spiatta, Fidinam & Partners SA, Via Maggio 1, CH - 6901 Lugano

Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant

Anyone know an updated English speaking tax resource in the Zurich area?
I tried to contact the person from Brugg but the email address is no longer valid.

Thanks

Nevermind - I was using the old email address.
