"VAT number" to be self employed

Hi All,
My previous employer has contacted me to go and work for them doing some odd jobs as I am not employed at the moment I would be eager to do so. They say there is around 2 weeks work to do, but they are not willing to employ me via a agency like Ranstad as it is "against their polices"

This has lead to them asking for me to be set up as a vendor with them, and to do that I have been asked to give them a Tax Number and a VAT Registration Number

I have my B permit but I don't think this gives me the information that I need.

I read other threads and see that the AHV number could be what I need to provide or as it is going to be a couple of weeks do I need something else.

Extra info if necessary
I am not expecting to bill them over 3500CHF
I am not expecting to work for them again
I am in Lausanne
I would be working from home
They are happy to pay me in the UK if I can provide them with a UK tax number, but I think I can't do that as I am no longer a UK resident.

Any advice would be of use, sorry if I am saying stupid things.

Re: "VAT number" to be self employed

Just go to your tax office and ask them. I don't think you will be paying any TVA (Amount too small) but you still need to register with TVA.

You also have to declare the income to the tax authorities, and also pay the AVS.

Re: "VAT number" to be self employed

Hi,

Tax Number and a VAT Registration Number are usually given once a company is registered. VAT you need it only if you invoice the companies with VAT. Sounds quite a lot of trouble for just a 2 weeks job. Have a look here (http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/specials...l?cid=29236344) and see if this helps you

You don't need to register for VAT unless your turnover goes over CHF100000.

Re: "VAT number" to be self employed

If you have only one client, i.e. your employer, you can't become self-employed as far as I know. You need approval from the Swiss authorities as it affects your permit status, taxes and insurances.
