Changing UBS address

Does anyone how how I can change my address for a UBS account? I tried internet banking but cannot find an option to change the address online. Is there a downloadable form or do I have to visit a branch?

Also, do you think authorities check your permit address against your bank address? (And what if they don't match, i.e., are located in a different kanton, is that a problem?).

Try using "Mailbox" on ebanking and mail the bank direct for an answer. They can tell you what to do!

Go into branch or send a letter, there is no on-line way...

Re: Changing UBS address

Surely UBS has a telephone hotline where you can change address on the phone. If it is not allowed on the phone, then I'm sure they would tell you what the procedure is?

I don't bank with UBS, but whenever I have a question for CS I just call them up.

Re: Changing UBS address

you can send messages securely within eBanking to your client advisor <sic> online and it should be sufficient to execute a change of address.

Re: Changing UBS address

No one has answered the question pertaining to giving UBS an address that is in a canton which is different from the canton where your permit is issued... I thought I would just say that I personally would be very careful with this. If you have a C-permit (i.e. come from an EU state) I would not worry, otherwise I would probably look into notifying the canton so that there are not any problems in the future. You probably already know this, but residency permits are issued by the cantons and are only valid for residency in the canton of issuance to the best of my knowledge. Of course one can change cantons, but I believe that one has to register these changes and then receive a new permit from the new canton of residence. I might be wrong on this. I also know that the law was changed this fall in the referendum on foreigners, which was supposed to make it easier for individuals with residency permits to change cantons. However, I think that individuals are still required to notify the authorities -- be they Swiss, C-holders, or B/L-Holders -- when they change cantons and communities. Just my two cents, and not meant to say you do not already know this.

Re: Changing UBS address

I've always done it on one of the mulitmat machines that you use to pay bills etc that are located in the foyer of some branches.

Well I didn't specifically answer that point - but did point out that UBS do have a phone line - so if anyone is wondering they are of course welcome to phone them and ask.

Let's also not forget that UBS is not the government, so I really don't think they would be checking on your permit type and whether you are allowed to move cantons or not. Neither would any other company (Cablecom, Swisscom, etc). If we are talking specifically about banking - there are very strict banking secrecy laws which forbid banks from disclosing details about their customers, even to the authorities.

Re: Changing UBS address

The bank address question is a bit ambiguous...a bank in another kanton or your address being in another kanton?

Bank in another kanton is fine - I've always had my bank account in Peseux. I doubt anyone will question the bank account address being in another kanton unless you're super-rich and the CA gets on his KYC/AML horse. For Business Banking, I doubt anyone will bother.

You will of course submit the bank year-end statements with your tax return. I doubt they'll care either....

Re: Changing UBS address

Oh I must have misread the question. I thought he was changing his personal address with the bank to one that would be different than the one registered with the authorities...

Thanks heaps, yes I meant changing the personal address to another kanton's. Reason being I do not fancy becoming an official wochenaufenthaltperson, by which I mean that two kantons might want to start a fight about who gets my taxes if I am elsewhere during part of the week.
