Is a used car declared as an asset in the tax declaration?

Silly of me, but, um..
Is a used car declarable as an asset? I get the impression that a new car definitely is, with a kanton dependent depreciation per year. What is the case with a 2007 automobile? Declare at purchase price, depreciate by period of personal use?

Edit: to clarify, for personal use, no business purpose, leasing, or other complexities involved.

Appreciate your input,

Please declare the canton where you are resident.

It's an asset, in Bern and Fribourg you state the car, year you bought it and how much you paid for it.

Re: Is a used car declared as an asset in the tax declaration?

Thanks.
This would be Basel-Stadt. I'm combing http://www.steuerverwaltung.bs.ch/ now, but limiting the matches in their search would require tax vocabulary beyond Fahrzeug.

Cheers,

Re: Is a used car declared as an asset in the tax declaration?

It's declared as an asset in Neuchâtel too. There is a place on the online tax declaration form where you have to declare it and a handy little tool that calculates the value you have to declare based on the make, model and age of the car.

Re: Is a used car declared as an asset in the tax declaration?

In the Basel Stadt tax guide . . .
http://www.steuerverwaltung.bs.ch/15...wegleitung.pdf
You'll find on page 39 . . .

That means that cars for your daily use are not relevant for the tax form.

Re: Is a used car declared as an asset in the tax declaration?

A-ha, so it's one of the kanton specific twists.
I hadn't seen a place for a car in the BalTax application, only generic assets, and was faintly aware of such existing in other areas, which is what started bothering me.

Once again, thank you all!

In ZH you depreciate 40% of cost first year & 10 % of residual value a year after that.
