3rd pillar withdrawal

Hi all,
I've read several posts about 3rd pillar but I haven't found (probably it's because of me) what I am looking for.
I would like to know how to get my 3rd pillar money back, when "I leave Switzerland forever".
Any clue? I know that getting 2nd pillar money, in such scenario, is more complex since Schengen, but I have no idea about how it is for 3rd pillar.
Furthermore, what happen if I would like to come back to Switzerland, some year after I've got the money? Will they kick me out since I've already left Switzerland forever?

Ciao
Mauro

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

1) buy a house

2) start a business

3) leave the EU

However, in all cases, the amount received will be added to your income for tax purposes, so expect to pay a good chunk of it in taxes.

If you leave CH before pension, and your destination is a Schengen country, the 2nd pillar money will not be paid to you but will be sent to the pension institute of your new country.
Before Schengen it was paid cash to you.

Thanks Tom, that I know. I'm asking what I have to do in order to get the money back, for point 3).
About taxation, your answer is not consistent with what I've read in this forum and in other Swiss websites, but it's not the subject of this thread.

By the way, if you are interestedm in details on 3rd pillar:

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

3rd pillar can be taken out:

- when you leave the country (talk to your bank)
- when you buy a flat or a house (I am 100 % about this one)
- when you start your own business

2nd pillar can be taken out:

- to buy a house or flat (it depends also of your age)
- the over obligatory part when you go in any EU/EFTA country
- all of it when you leave the EU/EFTA

BUT you have to pay taxes when you take the money out.

I doubt the tax is worrying them, the money is more use in their hands after leaving then left in some fund that pays almost zero return

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

Both pension fund (2nd pillar) and pillar 3a can be used to buy property.

https://www.ch.ch/en/financing-homeownership/

Whether that would apply to property other than your principal residence here I don't know.

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

Can I buy (or part fund) a house in another EU country or only in CH with pillar 2 ?
The document only mentions CH so guessing no.

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

I think it is possible to use it to fund a property in an EU country. I've seen posts here on the forum where some people have done it I believe. Best check with your pension fund directly to be sure though.

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

If I am not mistaken you can use the pillar 2 in Switzerland or abroad but you have to live in the property. You can't use the money to buy something and rent the place out.

Re: 3rd pillar withdrawal

I forgot to say, as st2lemans mentioned before, also pillar 3 can only be used to buy property where you will live in - primary residence.

You can use it to fund your main residence, so if you leave CH you can probably use it to buy a home. As you can often take the whole fund as cash, I don't see any point in using the pension & the restrictions imposed.

I took my pillar 2 as cash despite all he FUD that you can't if leaving for the EU.
