Freelance contract taxed at source?

Hi all,

Recently I did a 1 month contract with this agency in Zurich. They told me is wasn't a freelance contract. I gave them my signed contract and so far they never sent it back. When I got my pay check receipt at home I realised that my salary wasn't taxed at source.
I talked to the Geschäftsführer personally and he told me that my contract was a freelance and that contract up to 3 months they don't have to do it!

I've been living in Switzerland for 2 years and I have B permit. So I thought that in any case, citizens with B permit the employer is obliged to withhold the taxes.

IS there anyone that could give me more informations about it or where should I go to have them.

Thank you so much in advance.

Don't know... This guy more or less said you worked as a freelancer/self employed. Maybe this is an option for you? Think about it.

Re: Freelance contract taxed at source?

This is not my question though.

I don't really care what he says. I care about what I have on paper.

Re: Freelance contract taxed at source?

It is my understanding that as long as a contract lasts less than 90 days and is not expected to be renewed (within a certain unknown time frame) then regardless of your permit status no withholding tax is deducted.

Closest source I could find is this but it's not totally relevant to your situation:

http://www.steueramt.zh.ch/dam/finan...ishinweise.pdf

Here is where you can get the correct information:

Kantonales Steueramt Zürich, Dienstabteilung Quellensteuer, Bändliweg 21, Postfach, 8090 Zürich
+41 (0)43 259 37 00

Re: Freelance contract taxed at source?

You may have to phone your way to the responsible authority, but basically Scotti is right. You want to contact either Steueramt or Wirtschaftsamt of your Kanton of residence. Depending on your german proficiency you may want to mail them first.

Re: Freelance contract taxed at source?

At some point a tax form would have been sent out and you will have had to declare the earnings presumably. Thereafter you will have been sent a tax bill.
