Freelance work tax

Hi Everyone

I thought you guys might be able to help, I have searched the forum but I cannot find anything unique to my situation.

To cut a long story short I will go to italy for a year to do some contract work there. I have lived here in Switzerland with my family and I currently hold a c permit. My family will stay here and I will commute back at weekends every 3 -4 weeks. I will be employed through a UK agency and all they have told me is that I must be compliant. I do not want to have my deductions done through the UK as I do not live there. I prefer to my tax declaration here.

Does anyone have any experience in this and would know how I would go about doing the right thing?

You will be liable for tax in Italy as your living there, rather than in CH.
Assuming you spend 6 months & a day in Italy. You could bluff & pay Swiss tax or no tax at all, neither would be compliant.

Re: Freelance work tax

I will be staying in a hotel, so I won't have a place of residence there and I would not register there, it is a case that I would stay in a hotel and then go to work each day, I will carry on paying my rent and other bills here as I would still be here. The UK agency suggested I use a company in Nyon called Access Financial, I have only read bad reviews with them. They should do the booking keeping basically. If I can get salary slips and the money paid into my bank account then I would do my tax declaration as normal.

Staying in a Hotel does not make you not liable to tax laws, think about it if that were true rich people would just live in Hotels. Italian tax will be very much higher than Swiss tax, so you will be evading tax however you wish to spin it.

Re: Freelance work tax

I'm not trying to evade tax, I would like to pay my taxes and deductions as normal here. If I would set up a company here Self employed would that be easy or even an option?

Re: Freelance work tax

The hotel will announce your residence to the authorities, probably won't matter if you yourself don't.

I'm far from familiar with these, but will you keep your swiss residence permit if you mostly stay in Italy?

Your not ordinarily resident here if you living & working in Italy, is it really that difficult to understand? You don have a choice, unless your willing to break the law.

Doubt it, you wouldn't be self employed but contracted to a firm the SVA etc are wise to that scam. Don't want to pay Italian tax... don't go to live and work there.
