Bank account for future student

Hello,
I come from an EU country and I am frequent visitor in Switzerland,
in addition I plan to start studies in about 3 years probably in Zurich.
Therefore I would like to open a bank account which will serve my current needs as a visitor and future needs as a student.

Could you please recommend a Bank suitable for this?

You will not be able to open a bank account until you have a residents permit.

If this was true then why there are so many foreign banks in Switzerland dealing with international customers.

Are you rich?

If not, you have to be a resident.

Well, let's see. You have a total of 8 posts and everyone else on this thread has a combined total of 26,159 (that's not counting me). So I think they can make a comment or two whether it's serious or not.

Visitors will be seen as tourists and therefore shouldn't need a bank account while students will, but will need to show they have a Swiss residence permit. In these days of the US's FATCA law and Europe planning something similar many Swiss banks will no longer open an account for you unless you are a resident here.

Still, as you have way over CHF500,000 then simply approach the bank of your choice and ask to open an account. They'll either say no - or yes and charge you exorbitant fees for the privilege.

FATCA allows you to open a suiss account as long as you declare it with IRS, again you are wrong

OK when I open my account I will let you know if the fees are more than 100 euro per year which will be subtracted from the interest,
I just talked to a person who deals with those matters.
So you are wrong third time.

i see there i a lot of animosity about those financial matters and apart form Sbrinz all others have no clew or you don't want to give a responsible answer.

Probably the admin should take a closer look.

Anyway I don't care that much anyway.
In 10 days I will be there, probably I will let you know.

I never said you couldn't open an account under FATCA either. I was just pointing out that due to that law and a possible European one too the Swiss banks are much more wary/scared of opening accounts for non-residents.

If you find one at that price let me/us know. I pay CHF180 a year for my basic current account and that's with a reduction for having a mortgage with the bank!
