What lifestyle will we have

My husband is doing interviews for a job with a Swiss based US multinational.
The salary will be approx 150k Swiss Franc ( not confirmed yet). I am pregnant on our second child- have a two year old and hoping to move when baby is 6 weeks old!! ( if all goes well).
I will be a stay at home mam- we hope to rent out our house here before we go.
Looking at moving to Zug and staying either there or nearby town. We are hoping to rent a 3 bed apartment walking distance from amenities!! Ie shops cafes and supermarket etc.
What kind of lifestyle can we be afforded on this salary in Zug or surrounding areas.
We are not big spenders but at the weekends like to go for coffee and cake etc and bring the kids to activities.
We are hoping to try and save some cash also- we worked our take home pay to be approx 10 k per month but realise that Switzerland is an expensive country to live? Anyone offer suggestions to what kind of lifestyle we could potentially have there?

You will be able to eat plenty of cake! Even at Swiss prices. ;)

Welcome.

www.migros.ch this is a this is a typical Swiss supermarket. Here you can find products and their prices. you must not starve:msngrin:. Baby products are more expensive. Does the company not rent apartments? many companies offer this.

That's Marie Antoinette, in case you're uncertain.

http://www.coopathome.ch
http://www.leshop.ch

(these are full online shops - their offline, walk-in counterparts have more variety and also lower prices)

various special offers:

Some stuff can be sourced here:
http://ottos.ch
(yeah, the web-page looks kind of dodgy...)

Also, shopping in Germany is possible, though a bit of a stretch from Zug.
See

for the small-print...

At the price of higher taxes and a longer commute, you can move away a couple of kms into Kanton Zürich and save on rent.
I'd try to spend 3k (maybe a little bit more) on rent, at max.

The biggest expense in my experience is the cost of health insurance, rent and child care. If the company can pay for any of these that will make a big difference. :)

I will be a stay at home mammy for a few years!! Don't have to language to work in my chosen career.
I'm hoping if my hubby gets the job they will give him an expat contract and pay our accomodation. I believe health insurance is expensive- would 1500 Swiss franc cover 2 adults and two children?
Childcare would not be necessary but pre school costs would have to be factored in!!

Hi, I work in Zug too. We have CHF 60'000 a year together netto but before tax. We are two adults, no children. We live a very good life with that.

..... and the tax benefits of living in Kanton Zug are as follows .......

Re: What lifestyle will we have

Health insurance is a bit less, I pay 750 for a family of 5.
If your accommodation will be paid and your still on 150k you'll really have a good amount of disposable income. Rent is the main deduction each month. Schooling may also be paid for by the employer if your on an expat. If not it ranges from free, the local education system which is perfectly good, up to expensive private schools if you so choose.

Even if the employer doesn't cover the cost if rent ( which would be really unusual unless it was just a short term contract) you still have a pretty good lifestyle on that sort of salary in Zug.
It may be different from the life you're living at the moment but it will be pretty good nonetheless.

Kids are not school age yet- 2 and newborn. However I would be ok with the local education system. Would not want private or international schools.

The expat contract would be great but that might not happen. We will wait and see what happens ie job offer and package!!

Hubby and I must be working for the wrong companies then since neither pays for rent or housing. But be that as it may, you will not bevome rich or be able to save a lot, but it's enough for a good life.

Austerity Ireland has taken its toll on us- working to pay the bills with little left over. High tax and childcare- running a hundred miles an hour to stand still!! This move would mean I can take a career break, stay at home with the kids and hopefully have a decent quality of life ie not watching the pennies too much and hopefully save some cash!

I think you may have understood it the wrong way round, as I did at first.

I took this to mean that they were hoping that the company would be paying their rent. In what way have I ( and others) misunderstood?

Pinkpanter 25.04.2015 22:06

Re: What lifestyle will we have

We would love the company to pay our accomodation however I don't believe they will. We have to look at the figures as if we have to pay our accomodation costs.

Maybe start with a budget planner and see how far you all go with the salary on offer:

also on this site, for example:
