Leaving Switzerland and employer. Need to find a "Share Register"

Hmm, this might be too basic of a question for the financially-savvy.:o

I'm leaving my Swiss employer and moving to a new company in Liverpool (my home region).

I have around CHF 110k of company stock that I would like to hold on to (for the foreseeable future). I'd rather not sell right now (especially as just dipped after a period of growth).

My current employer holds this stock in their corporate "Share Register". I've been told I have 90 days to find a new Share Register. I have *zero* other experience with personal shares. Not sure if a Share Register is the same as a Share Custody account. I assume this is a paid service.

Would anyone have a recommendation on whether better to use a UK Share Register or a Swiss service and any names ?

Thanks a lot in anticipation.

Any particular suggestion would be super useful as this is an area completely new to me.

Yes, effectively a custody account is the same thing.

You probably want it in the UK for tax purposes if you have no other foreign holdings - the statements will line up with the right financial year and be in the right format for example.

See if your UK bank does this - that way it could all be in your online banking, which if you're not doing much with it is convenient.

AJ Bell have a good reputation for reliability and value - I have my old UK pension with them, can't comment directly on the dealing account.

Can the current institution holding your equity currently transfer it out of the corporate account and set you up with a personal account at the same institution?

Hi HIAO, not an available option but thank you.

Hi I am in a similar situation, how did this work out for you? Was there any sort of withholding tax to pay on the transfer of custody?

Hi, no I haven't spent enough time on that.

I just emailed Halifax in the UK to ask if they support non-UK stock.

Another consideration I found is that there can be a currency exchange hit if trading in non-GBP stock.

I'm already a Halifax basic banking customer. The following link suggested it may be a good match for the stock holding as I'm more inclined to Hold than Buy/Sell

If you find a solution I'd be very pleased to hear.

If the dip in value is connected with the strengthening CHF, that is to be expected as foreign earnings will produce lower CHF profits. If you ultimately want GBP then the strength of the CHF is 'hedged' :D Remember you will be liable to UK CGT tax on your gains, once you return. If you have been non resident for 5 UK tax years any sales you do whilst still CH tax resident will be free of UK CGT.
