Some would define the letters as coercion and the fees as usury, which are both laws... The Beobachter and all those consumer rights agencies had a couple of legal battles with them and now they word the letters in a way that they are probably legal, but still achieve the same...
Maybe an altrusitic top notch lawyer with lots of time on his hands could take them down. But such people are rare and mostly when you fall into arrears its because you are already struggling to make ends meet and will do anything to get yet another problem off your neck. They exploit this shamelessly.

Re: INTRUM JUSTITIA: how badly can they screw me up

Hello,
I would like ask how the case with Intrum Justitia ended? I'm in the very same situation with my debt sold by Salt to this company and now they are threatening me that they will pursue me in the country I live in (which is Poland). Is this even possible? As far as I know to collect the debt they should first go to local court and win the case.

Pay the debt and interest, but not the costs.

But pay it direct to Salt, not to the collectors.

Re: INTRUM JUSTITIA: how badly can they screw me up

Well, I would love to pay the debt directly to Salt but they say that it's no longer their business as the debt was sold to Intrum. I don't even have their bank account number or anything as I was, as always in Switzerland, paying my bills at the post office. This sucks ass especially when Salt never informed me by letter about my debt

They need to have sent you bills and a Mahnung before they can try and pursue the debt legally - if you never received these, there is no way they can enforce anything.

They legally can't do this. Send them a registered letter with proof of receipt, saying you intend to pay the debt to them, and request their bank details. You can google the law on this as I did in the past.

Thank you so much- I'll do this. But is there any chance that, while I'm solving the case directly with Salt, this Intrum company will start to mess things up here in Poland (they say they have Polish branch office)? By messing up I mean going to court or something serious not just sending me lousy letters.

Actually they can, probably, read the T&C.

That doesn't make the extra charges conforming to law though.

I imagine they can only send the bills if the customer updates their address!

I wonder if mobile phone companies know of some other way to contact customers?

Not if the phone number is no longer active
