Mobile NFC Payments Services

Hi all,

I'm sort of in the realm of time to buy a new phone - I'm still pretty happy with my old LG G3 at the moment, it is serving me well, so no real need to upgrade.

Something that would convince me (or better said, give me an excuse) would be the advent of mobile payments.

Currently, in Switzerland, there does not seem to be any sort of mobile wallet / contactless payment service. I believe Tapit used to exist for Swisscom customers, but that was limited and now dead.

Does anyone have any inside info on when Apple Pay or Android Pay might be hitting these shores, or a viable alternative?

i can see the need for mobile payments if you are in a country with no decent infrastructure, but i see few advantages for it here. TBH, I thought android pay was already available years ago.

I don't know the answer, but I also don't get why we need more proprietary payment mechanisms.

Why can't phones simply support the existing EMV standard and then they'll be accepted vitually everywhere?

The Six payment NFC payment machines are already Apple pay compatible, so guess whenever apple decides and can convince the banks here it is secure.

Can any Apple users confirm this? Is Apple pay available in CH yet, i.e. can you add CH credit cards or bank accounts to the app?

Anything that reduces the size of my wallet and lessens what I need to carry around gets the thumbs up from me Phil.

Perhaps we will hear more announcements at the end of November...

http://www.swisspaymentforum.ch/

Seems they have their yearly knees-up around then, maybe something will come out of it.

Also, maybe it will be pushed and uptake increased by October, as by then, all US companies will have to move to chip+pin security or face covering losses themselves, should fraud occur.

Hi,

to be honest I have yet see the value of these systems. I don't even see much value in the contactless cards. They seem to be solutions looking for problems to solve. Using a massively overpriced phone to pay for a cup of coffee seems like overkill in the extreme.

Have fun

Martin

I'm not really interested in using apple pay or contactless.. For the sake of what, 3 seconds to type my pin. Hey ho,

But to answer your question .. The Passbook app on my iOS 8.1.2 does not have the option to add a credit card, only tickets, coupons or boarding cards (which i do actually use all the time)

well, i don't see the point given that we have contactless cards now which means i can just slap the wallet or card onto the reader. it has the advantage of not running out of batteries.

Windows phone wallet on windows phone may be partly on the way too what you're looking for.

Taken from the " learn more" web page:
Quote:

Credit or debit cards Purchase apps and games in the Windows Phone Store, or simply keep track of your card account info. And if your service provider and phone support it, you can even set up credit or debit cards to make NFC purchases in shops. (This requires a special, secure SIM card.)
See link: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/ho...p8/apps/wallet.

Failing all else, there's always the Airtel Money app.

This is worse than a For Sale thread! If you don't give a crap about it, that's fine! Some of us do and would find it useful.

If you have useful info, please post, if you are being a naysaying ne'er-do-well, sling your hook!

Yes, it's definitely Friday :)

No word yet on apple pay Switzerland. It has only recently released in the UK.

I have a uk itunes account and can now add a credit or debit card for my UK bank on the passbook app.

I'd say apple pay is likely to release here late this year or early next, but that is just speculation.

Your LG is clearly overpriced. It's much cheaper on digitec.

You probably won't get more than chf 50 for it, it's electronics dude. Who can say if you dropped it or it got wet already. Does it come with a guarantee? I'll take it off you for chf 40 if you will deliver it to my house.

I've pm'ed you.
